Welding an exhaust flange - tailpipe!

Ok...my tailpipe's gasket crapped out because it was leaking, so I buy a new tailpipe and see that the other flange (muffler end) was rusted off...I dont want to purchase a new muffler because its still good and not corroded. Has anyone else tried to weld an exhaust flange on an otherwise perfectly fine exhaust pipe? Does Meineke do these type of fix?

If there is good metal there it can be welded. If its all flaky and rusted then no, the muff will have to be replaced.

Definitely, the flange part seems to be not part of the pipe itself so it can but cut. I was wondering if a muffler shop can weld just a flange and bolt on the tailpipe....
