I have ahd a run of problems lately with my 2001 Sebring convertable. Yesterday after after two days at the dealer for a heater problem (sporatically working) the dash board light flickered after the car had been running for over a half hour. Not just one numerious times while stopped at a light and while driving. The heat was on, headlights and radio the first time it happened. I shut the radio off thinking maybe I was useing too much power but the they continued to dim and come back regular. I hit the rear defroset an the same thing happened. This AM no headlights on no problemd with the dash......
Any ideas what it could be. If I take it back to the dealer it won't happen and they will think I am insane.
Thanks to anyone who has an idea of what it could be.

I've heard (again, I've heard, don't know if it's true or not) that when cars like this w/ the 2.7 V6 act this way, it's a sign of imminent engine failure. I highly disagree w/ that, but I've read on forums such as these that this is a warning sign; just FYI, don't know if it's true, never encountered that in my years as a mechanic

don't worry.. I had the problem on my car too.. I fixed it.. it just that your dimmer is too high or too close to your max dimmer.. just lower it a little bit and the problem should be solved.. If I knew that before, I wouldn't pay for that electrical problem ;P

My 2001 convertable also has this problem. It seemed to show up after the radio died and dealer replaced it. I'll try the dimmer trick to see if it goes away.

I have the same problem on a 2004. The indiglo light goes out intermittenly. All the other dash lights and guages still work. I messed with the dimmer while this happens and no luck. The problem seemed to show up arround 4000miles. I really don't want to tear into it being that it's under warranty, but the dealer is no help. Go Figure. Has anyone figured anything out as to what the cause maybe? Also I was wondering if there is some kind of ballas for the indiglo that could be overheating and shutting down. Any suggestions would be appreciated and I'll let yall know if I figure anything out with this problem.

I, too have had the same problem with flickering of my dash lights. Although I tried messing with the dimmer and headlight switches, the behavior was not systematic--seemed like it worked sometimes, but not others. Recently, though, a new problem has arisen--the dash lights go completely out. Again, it seems that sometimes messing with the switches fixes it, but other times it doesn't.
Is there anyone out there who has fixed this problem permanently?

It turns out there was a TSB for this problem. They replaced my switch and the problem went away.. it was covered under warranty and I was having other stuff done, so I don't know what the actual cost would be, but they did pull the dash to replace it.

Check out Technical Service Bulletin # 08-026-01 It's a problem with the multifunction switch. Easily replaced.

What is the switch called by chance?
