2004 modeling spending

Well, it's that time of year again for most of us ... time to start getting ready for tax season. While gathering my relevant tax papers, I decided to crunch some numbers on my modeling spending for 2004 just for kicks. I do 95% of my modeling spending from one account, so it's easy to track. I thought I'd share my results with you guys. $1754.79
The total includes all Ebay stuff and all non-US purchases (kits, wheels, P/E sets, decals, transkits, etc) plus paints not available in the US (Gunze, Finishers, etc) and specialty paints (HOK, CobraColors). Not included are trips to the LHS for other paints (Tamiya, Alclad, etc), styrene, supplies, and such since those are done with cash. It's a shame the total isn't tax deductible so I could write it off. Maybe something to work on. Get a bigger return to spend on more modeling stuff. :iceslolan
It seems average to me, as this year did see lots of releases that I wanted. I usually allot myself $50-$100/month for modeling stuff, thought that's more of a guideline than a hard and fast rule. Considering I spent a bit more than this on my vacation earlier this month, all is normal.
Yeah, I know sometimes it's better not to add things like this us, as the results can be scary, but I was just curious. Don't plan on spending that much this year. I need to finish building the kits I bought from last year. Though that plan could crumble with some exciting new releases.

WoW.. I don't keep track of this, but it's usualy near 500-700$ by year for me.
I do mostly harder kit now (resin, soon 1/12, special cf etc.) so they cost a bit more, but it take me 3 or 4 months to do while normal out of box kit take me 1 month. I find it cheaper to get a 100$ model, working on it 4 months, than buyin 4 models at 35$ each (and more)

well, as i'm just 2 yrs into the whole modelling thing and i'm really busy with school and my real car it was a rather cheap year for me. :)
I bought about 8 kits this year and i made, finished 3 (working on the 4).
Bought some paint and brushes, some thinner,...
I guess it would be around 300 Euros, still alot if you ask me.

I just got back into modeling at the end of november, so I didnt spend much last year. 6 models about $100 total, Paints about $30 total, box of junk parts and models that was $60. So my total was probably about $200. Not bad I think.

This past year, I maybe purchased about 6 kits, then paint and supplies and the like. I finished them all except one, that I'm having some issues on. I have no idea about cost, though. I do know that already this year, I've bought like maybe 6 kits already. I go to the LHS to get paint or supplies and every single freaking time I walk out with maybe 2 kits. I think I need Modelers Anonymous. I spent like $50 of my money set aside for bills unconsciously this past weekend. Houston, I think we have a problem.

I bought 32 kits this year i think but maybe one or two more. ive spent about $80 a month for paint etc... and spent maybe $300 on detail stuff. but i dont want to add it up cus im sure my girlfriend would find out if i did. in the last two years ive bought 90+ kits but i was collecting alot in 2003 and ive been building alot in 2004 so more money has gone to supplies. but i spend about $90 a week on models and stuff. its bad. but Hub Hobby is very happy with me :lol2:

I'd hate to think what I spent. Some big budget items like the SMS Porsche 935 set. All I know is that this year is going to see a lot less bought, and hopefully more built!

2004 was an expensive year what with the rare 1:12 kits a lathe, milling machine and the usual 3/5 kits per month, plus after market parts, but next year will be a lot less as I have enough supplies etc now. I hope :evillol:

Boy some you guys have a BAD jones! This past year I bought all the autos I am ever going to do ( 12 ), save two-- all 1/24... most from eBay.... so for kits, tools, paints, etc. I probably spent something on the order of $500+. The next year or two will be for building, not buying.

A average month i would get 1-2 kits. And the price for kits in Sweden is about 20-30 $ for a U.S. kit and 30-50$ for Japanese kits.. These prices are "off the shelf" = local hobbyshop. Yepp, it`s expensive to glue plastic in Scandinavia :)

My budget was a bit over 1100$ but this year I think I will brake the roof :) and get killed by my wife :)

I don't keep track on what I spend on my hobby. But I would guess that I am in the $1200-1500 US neighborhood for 2004. Marc

I'll probably follow my usual habit of spending whatever it takes to get the stuff I want. Fortunately, I have most of the kits I'm really interested in.
Too bad the IRS did away with the hobby deduction on US income taxes. There was a deduction for hobbies a couple of years ago, but you had to spend a significant portion of your income on a hobby to get the deduction. I never made it.

lol... i probably spent like $150ish. around 5 kits(not a single one is finished yet), a mask for painting, some random materials(paint, putty, etc...). i barely touch my models during the school year so i dont spend too much money on models.

Yes. More building. Less buying. Seems to be many people's resolution for 2005. Already in $80 for '05 for a pair of kits and some paints. On a side note, this weak dollar vs. the yen is really becoming a pain.

I purchased 23 kits, 2 donor kits and 6 diecasts. Adding shipping, supplies and after market parts, the total is about $800, which doesn't sound so bad compared to the past, but 23 kits means I have to finish 2 kits a month this year to balance the buying-building ratio.

I am a newbie, just started this hobby last year, Dec. Had already spent more or less around $1k.
Since I am just starting out, I have to get everything that I need compare to all of you who had own every basic to advance tool since years ago. Plus, I had bought 14 kits within a month. :screwy:
My gf was complaining that I am crazy as I get myself into such an expensive hobby. But, I think it is all worth it!

I don't really keep track of my spending, but I would estimate it at about £200-300. I don't keep huge stockpiles of kits like some people do, I just finish one kit and buy another.
