I've owned my 1995.5 rodeo (auto/with 157k) for about four months now, and bought it mainly for the snowy winter. The 4x4 worked great at first, but after the first snow storm, i took it out, and no 4x4. It shifts into 4x4 and the light shows on the dash, but the front wheels wouldn't engage. So i shifted into 4 HI, and still no front wheel engaging, but it was reving quickly, so it was obviously in 4 HI. Is this a tempature issue with some of the 4x4 components? Or just a issue with the hubs not locking? Need to figure this out by sunday.. big storm coming! Thanks

I had this problem with my 92 when I first bought it.
I don't know if yours has a SOFT mechanism, but I would jack up both front tires, put it in 4x4, put the tranny in neutral and try spinning the front shaft of the transfer case (the one that goes to the front diff) to see if either wheel turns with the axles.
I had one bad automatic hub on the driver side and found that even though the passenger wheel worked, it didn't feel like 4wd was working at all.

Thanks Steve. I'll give it a shot later, but to answer you question, I don't have a shift on the fly option. Thanks again

Changed the hubs to a set of superwinch, manual locking hubs. As it turns out, the axle clip snapped off of the auto locking hubs and screwed everything up. So after some work, the hubs lock perfect and snow is not a problem. Also, if anybody desides to do this, check your wheel bearings because mine were very loose!
