Heres a story of what happen today with a f*cked up cop and me:

It all started when my friend wanted a ride home cause he was sick. It was lunch time at school and he asked me to give him a ride (Which i did) and after i droped him off i went back on the road on my way to school. Well while driving back i decided to bump my bass up just a lil. I was around 1/4 of a mile away from school until out of nowhere i heard "Pull over to the right!". I saw the cop behind me and pulled over. He came up to me and said "license and registration", i gave it to him. After waiting for around 3 mins he came back and said "sir do u know how loud your stereo was?" i said "no sir i dont" he said "well while driving by your car i can hear the rattle of your trunk and that was pretty loud" He then walk in front of my car... i was thinking "What the fuck is he doing now?" He went back into his car and i waited another min or 2.... He then came up to me again and said "sir, u do know that your car has no front license plate right?" i said "Umm i bought the car like this and the original owner never had problems such as this" The cop said "Well you can go to the DMV and get new plates and it wouldnt affect u on this 2 charge ticket." He gave me a ticket and said "You got court next month on the 16th." I just said "Alright" Drove back to school and got real pissed.!!!

Man I was soo fucking mad and that was a fucking dumb reason.. My car will rattle with a little bass because of the loose back panels. I asked my sis if she knew how much they would charge me, she said that her bf was charged $500 because he had the same problem EXCEPT it was around midnite and he had no insurance AND it wasnt his car (it was my sis 04 corolla). Also, the corolla was towed on a friday night and was kept in the poundlot for 3 days cause they dont open on weekends. Do u guys know how much im gonna get charged? i hope its not around 500 because i dont have a job. Man this sucks!!

According to the super street it is not required to have a front plate unless they changed the laws but i just got that issue last year so maybe things have changed.

Holly shit!!! I got pulled over today too!!!http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/disappointed.gif But I was pulled over for speeding on the freeway. I was doing 98 in a 65 and i had two 17 year old girls in the car with me http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/smokin.gif (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=1&s=#)(I'm 18). (And no i was not showing off if was just trying to pass a pickup truck that kept speeding up next to me).

The second cop that came asked the girls how old they were. Then he starts saying shit like "you could go to jail for that!!! For indangering minors!!!" At that point i though i was going to jail. But i didnt. Instead they wrote a ticket out for 90+ in a 65.

This is my first ticket and i was wondering, about how much it would cost?

But damn it sucks to get pulled over!!!

I searched for this online because it seemed pretty Nazi-like to me, too. I lived in the Bay Area not too long ago, and no one I knew had a front plate. I found out moving to the East Coast that having a front plate was required. It blew my mind, :).

For California:

"Presentation

The California Vehicle Code (CVC) requires that all vehicles registered in the State of California have a front license plate.

5200 CVC - When two license plates are issued by the DMV for a vehicle, they shall be attached to the vehicle for which they were issued, one in the front and the other in the rear.
5201 CVC - License plates shall at all times be securely fastened to the vehicle for which they are issued so as to prevent the plates from swinging and shall be mounted in a position to be clearly visible, and shall be maintained in a condition so as to be clearly legible. The front license plate shall be mounted not more than 60 inches from the ground.
5201 (e) CVC - No covering shall be used on license plates, excluding license plate security covers.
5202 CVC – Every license plate issued by this State or any jurisdiction within or without the United States shall remain attached during the period of its validity to the vehicle for which it is issued while being operated within this State. "

The above via http://www.lapdonline.org/bldg_safer_comms/tip_of_the_month/2000/Traffic/00_06_traffic_tip.htm

As for the noise limit, this was the best I could find,

"Limits for Other Vehicles

27206. For the purposes of Section 27200, the following noise limits shall apply to any other motor vehicle, not specified in this article, manufactured:

(1) After 1967, and before 1973 86 dbA
(2) After 1972, and before 1975 84 dbA
(3) After 1974 80 dbA

Amended and renumbered Ch. 558, Stats. 1977. Effective January 1, 1978. "

The above was via http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc27206.htm,

as a subsection of
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/vc/tocd12c5a2_5.htm

I think all you really did was piss off the wrong cop. His off duty car must be a civic.

As far as not having a front plate, I don't think you can really argue. The noise of your system is a judgement call on the part of the officer. I know some systems are rated by max decibel output, so if you had a pussy-ass system, you could site that. 80 Decibles isn't much, though. That's general cvc (Ca vehicular code), there might me some subsection that relates to car audio specifically. And Sacramento may have county laws or city ordinance in addition to cvc. Shitty.

Go fight it anyway, balls to the wall. What do you have to lose.

dude the person you skiped lunch for to take home better have been a girl that you were getting some from. Cause if you did that for a guy + got a ticket man you should be pissed. Also i heard that cops follow a 20 steps away from the car thing if they can hear your music from 20 steps away they write you up well if its an asshole cop.

one last question why didnt you turn your music off when the cop pulled you over? cause i dobt the cop was able to hear your music unles he was driving right next to you and in that case why would you stomp it? just wondering.

Vetboiiii:
in North Dakota, the officer has to be able to hear the "music" from more than 50 feet away. i think it's a $20 ticket. for not having a front plate it's also $20 and 2 points (we have the points system for violations)

RaginAsian:
i got caught doing 91 in a 65 zone and my ticket was $120 and 9 points (again, we have the points system for violations in ND) that's up in north dakota though, we have pretty cheap tickets. if i would have been in minnesota it would have been like $1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (a little bit of exaggeration) :iceslolan

Dont worry about the ticket your not gonna pay hundreds of dollars. I live around the same area you do and this is what they do to minors i got pulled over for : No front plate, Loud exhaust, No insurance (i do have insurance just didnt have it with me) And blastin my 2 12s audiobahns at night around 11:00PM when i was 16 in my GS. i was scared shitless on how much it was gonna cost me. Well went to court (all minors have to go to go court no matter what it is, youll get something in the mail saying if you want to pay full amount and get a point on your license and not have to go to court) DONT PAY!! Go to court youll be way better off.

So i went to court with my mom, it was a lady judge. What she will do is give you about a quick 2 min lecture. Your fine will be about $150 maybe, then she will be like "ill reduce your fine if you go to traffic school, and blah blah blah" then shell tell you were to go to traffic school at then you go and youll pay like 40 bucks i think for the school and once you did the school youll go back to the court to show proof youve done it and i think youll pay a very small fine if any.

With me i only went to traffic school and payed 20 bucks for a fine for all that stuff and didnt get no point on my license  . So dont worry about it soo much if its just that.

But i dont think nobody can beat Jakes record of 11 citations(i think) in one night.

In Alberta Canada a noise violation ticket is about $150 Dollars and 35 over the speed limit would be around $300 and a crap load of demerits (we as well use a "point system")

another thing I noticed was that you do not know the price of the ticket until you go to court? is that correct? here they write it right on the tickets.

But one nice thing is that we dont have to have a front license plate.

I wish sometimes I was in the states, a lot cheaper tickets, I have had my share of them.

Anyone know how Virginia works? I am gonna be down there from May-August working and just wanted some heads up. I am not sure exactly where, I will find out tomorrow.

One thing i know about Virginia is radar detectors are illegal. Be careful if you have one. I have one that cost $400. Anyone know which one i have?? just a quiz...

God.. I hate freaking cops... nothing better to do than give tickets for "too loud" and "no front plate".

Here's a question though, if you wasn't driving your DSM, if you were driving lets say a different car, playing your music, with no front plate... I wonder if that asshole would stop you.

In Texas, it is required for a plate to be seen on the front and rear, most people with custom cars just put them (both) in the windshields. But if the word "Texas" is covered you can get a $35 ticket. Another thing that ive been puleed over for 3 times, and all 3 times got dismissed by the judge, was flashing my high beams at a computerized light control. Cops down here cant just turn on their lights and speed through a stop light, they have to wait till its clear or wait til the light turns green. However, the new traffic lights have little cameras on them that recognize flashing lights (like on a cop car). So if you flash your high beams at them when your away from the light, itll change your light gree, and the others, red, of course. Just some info.

DANG! I have a few radar detectors actually, I sell them. Do you have the Valentine One?? What do a lot of of you guys in the states use that are hidden from police and stuff?? It is not an issue where I live so I never really read into it, but I should buy something before I get down there.

I live in Kanas and work for a gas station chain called QuikTrip. We give cops free coffee and stuff, so they're in there all the time. Everybody that works for QT gets to be real buddy buddy with the cops. I've gotten out of two tickets just because I worked there, my friend has gotten out of one and I even heard a story (not sure if it's true) about somebody getting pulled over for DUI, and since he worked for QT, the cop DROVE HIM HOME!! Anyways, I realize it must suck to not get perks like this, but cops are just like all of us, dudes with jobs.

here in new mexcico i got pulled over doin 115 in a 75 (on the freeway) and the ticket was something like $450+. and that was a state trooper.when i saw the ticket and what it was going to cost me i read over the ticket and told the officer i wanted to take it to court instead because he got the color of my car wrong on the ticket .... he said it was dark blue, instead of black so i won it in court. thank god i didn't have to pay it. it would of been like 5 or 6 points off my licence too.

Oh my F*cking god! I really hate 2005. First i got a ticket yesterday and now TODAY after school while backing up, I hit a civic. Actually we both backed up into each other. I ran out of my car and was like "OMFG!" and said "Hold on let me get my insurance and license" After a sec of looking for my papers i got back to her car and she said "Hey i dont have my insurance on me".... this really helped me alot haha. Well then i said "Umm.... u wanna let this slide?" she said "alright"
Man my baby been damaged!!! Theres a huge scratch on my passanger side back panel. Well the civic i hit has a HUGE dent that went all the way in haha. I guess the eclipse engine is not the only strong point of the eclipse ^_^. il take some pictures tomorow since right now its too dark.

why do newer corvettes get to cruise around without a front plate nobody else can?

man i have that same problem, damn cats of all things have left scratches on my fenders and what not. FYI, don't try to rub off bird shit, it only things ALOT worse. i tried some touch up paint from autozone, they sorta look like pens. it worked good for me, besides the point i got the wrong color black  so, make sure you get the right color, they have them labled by manufacturers too.

I'm not trying to highjack your thread but I'm really worried about my ticket. I got the ticket yesterday and its my fist time getting a ticket. The ticket says 90+ but when i go to court will the judge know exactly how fast i was going? Will he know if i had anyone in the car? Could i get in trouble of indangering minors after the fact? Well here is the ticket.

i think they have to put exactly how fast you were going, otherwise the ticket is invalid. did you ask him to see the radar at the speed he clocked you at? were you actually doing 90+? if not then the cop could be making it up that you were actually going THAT fast (not saying you weren't speeding though) but if that's the case, take it to court and fight that shit, you're bound to win.

I think minor court would be the same as regular court except no parent. If its your first offense the judge will be lenient on you. And the fact that you had minors in the car wont be able to be used in court be cause thats not a citation on your ticket. The only thing that the court is there is for what is written on the ticket. So they cant bring up stuff right in the middle of court. you get what im saying?

If you try to fight with the police officer, theres a chance he might not show up (alot of cali cops dont like going to those court things) so you automatically win, but if he does show up you might wanna be prepared if you wanna fight it. You can say you were going somewhat over the speed limit because (make up a good excuse) but you dont believe it was 90+ and you can say the police officer didnt show you a gun, and that even he doesnt know the speed limit if he cant put it down exactly.

Also you can ask the police officer whens the last time the gun was calibrated if it was supposedly right. because an expired gun cant give you a ticket, it needs to be calibrated ever so often. Also make sure to dress appropiate, or else they will stereotype you right away.

I learn all this because i work right next to a police staion at a restaurant, and they come over all the time and i ask alot of questions  . i know the chief of police and he tells me this. He also rights out my fix it tickets when i havent fixed it yet. lol So its up to you. But most likely you will win and get a lower fine and you will have a choice to go to traffic school. choose the traffic school you dont want a point, especially at that speed your insurance will skyrocket. Good luck

They do this around the end of the month so they can meet their fucking quotas...

Sucks for you guys. We don't have too many B.S. laws like that here in Alabama :iceslolan . We don't have emissions testing and radar detectors are legal. Only have to have ONE license plate that's on the rear (duh), and I've never seen/heard of anyone getting pulled over around here for loud exhaust, dark window tinting, or loud music (all three of which apply to my dsm as well :grinyes: ). I guess there ARE some perks about living in the heart of dixie :p .
