Hmm im wondering on if I should buy a shift kit for my 99. I saw http://www.txchange.com/tgp.htm and it said taht stock automatic trans are very slow shifting and that causes slippage and durability issues. Also, it mentions something about holding a gear or something.....im not sure. If anyone has any tips lemme know.

Sounds reasonable to me. I put a shift kit in a 1980 Pinto with C-4 tranny years back. It would hold a speed in any gear without upshifting. It would catch 2nd gear scratch too. But, I think this was due to the fact that there was a lot of clearance in the clutch packs. They are right. Most people want a smooth shift. To get this they provide a tight clutch pack with a slow shift. As they get older, the clutch packs get looser and they shift harder. Delaying the shift just wears out the clutch packs sooner. I say go for it. It sounds good to me.

well.....by holding a gear in any speed you mean that it doesnt shift?? or it shifts when you let off the gas? or how?? i am confused.

It doesn't shift. When you let up on the gas it doesn't shift into the next higher gear. Say you are in 2nd and you are pulling 5,000 rpm. When you let up on the gas it stays in 2nd and decelerates instead of shifting into the next higher gear. Sort of like an automatic stick shift. However, if you want to put it in drive it will automatically shift as always except with a much more positive shift.

I Work At A Tranny Shop And Just Rebuilt A 4eat And Put A [ Shift Kit ] In It. Its Actually A Shift Correction Kit, It Smoothes Out The Shift And Lets You Rev A Bit Higher . I'm Gettin Ready To Put One In Mine Now, Definate Difference
