I have a 1997 Z24 2.4L. Just this morning the engine started bucking at 4,000 rmp's. The check engine light was on yesterday and I drove it to work and back (about 75 miles or so). Then this morning the bucking started. I pulled the plugs and they are gapped, gunked up, and need to be replaced but I'm sure thats not the main problem. Other than the engine bucking at 4,000 RMP's the engine runs fine, doesn't run hot, and holds a good idle. My guess is its a sensor. What do you guys think?

on the 97, do they have spark plug wires or the boots like the 96 does, if so check your boots and see if there worn or burnt
