Denali Snow Tires

I can't seem to find any true snow tires for my denali. No one seems to make a true winter tire in the correct 17" size.

Tire Rack recommends downgrading to 16".
But I already brought an extra set of 17" Denali wheels.

I do some serious winter stuff like trailering 4000lbs through snow covered and icy roads. I need the assurance of snow tires !!!

I was looking at off-road mud tires, but the rubber compound is NOT suited for cold weather..

how about getting 16" steel winter wheels ?
They may be $50 or so a piece.
17" wheels on the Yukon are a "+1" size and for low profile summer tires.

My wife's dad lived in Calgary, Alberta. He knows something about cold and snow. These are the only tires he'll buy. Love the aggressive tread design!

Also, if you are looking for all out winter tires, these are about as the Blizzaks I had. However, they are strictly winter tires. I still think the Geolanders are a better compromise. But then, I live in Seattle and see snow only on the weekends when we head up to the cabin in Leavenworth.

The BFG TA KOs have the severe service snow symbol this year, but I cannot locate any info on a compound change if any. I have these on backorder at Cosco.

The BFG's seem like the way to go with the snow service mountain symbol, but they are not available for another month.

I didn't want to go with anything marked "off road" due to highway noise, but the BFG's seem like a good compromise.

Hi,
I too have the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO on my YXL K2500. They are wonderful in the snow.
They are noisy, as is to be expected with that kind of tread pattern.
I use them year round and tow a 10,000 lbs camper trailer in the summer.

how noisy are they ?
will it be tolerable for my wife and kids ??
we trailer 5 hours with snowmobiles into snow country, and I can feel the Denali slidding around with the factory good years. Then with a 3000 lb trailer, going up hill........

I would definately feel better with a serious snow tire. especially since the denali has an open diff front and rear. If it were a true 4 wheel drive, I wouldn't consider snows. But I prefer to be on the safe side...

I did what you did, I have a 2nd set of 17's with Bridgestone tires. They work AWESOME. No issues at all. Treads clear out well and I was driving through 2 foot drifts of powered and ice in the recent storm.

it is my understanding that Denali's come with RPO (Regular Production Option) G80, the limited slip differential. Look for it on the white sticker in the glove compartment.
As for the noise, it is a quiet but noticable hum.

Not as bad as a K+N cold air intake filter and nowhere near the free flow exhausts. I had both and took them off because of the noise.

My 2004 Denali does not have ltd slip diff & I don't think that any 2004 Denali does.As I recall it wasn't on the option list.

No Denali has the G80 rear, due to the stability system. Not even an option.
open differential front and rear, means 1 front tire and 1 rear tire get power. which means it's like a 2wd car with a posi.

I had my Denali stuck in 8" of snow with 1 rear tire spinning, and 1 front tire 1/2 spinning. the front tire would spin, and stop, and spin, and stop, while the rear was spinning.


you took off the K&N, or the noisy snow tires ??

I think (and I could be wrong here) that the '01 and possibly '02 Denalis may have had the LSD, but '03+ definitely doesn't come with it...even though it is technologically possible for them to have it, even with the Stabilitrak.

My 03 does NOT have it, and it was NOT available when I factory ordered my Denali.

another Poor choice by GM. I thought it was cause of the stability system, but I could be wrong. ....

No one has Bridgestone winter duelers... sold out at tire rack for $128
my local tire stealer wants $195 each !!!
I told him where to go.

I took off the K+N and the aftermarket free flow muffler because of the noise.
The tires do not bother me.

since we have 10" here, this it the deal.
my denali... while it won't get stuck, it does slide around quite a bit. it slides all over the road. once I had to spin the tires pretty good to get out of a parking spot.. and I currently have a new set of factory Junkyear wrangler HP's. so that's why I'm buying snow tires.. just to stop the sliding around in the snow...
