How does the command trac TC rate as opposed to the select trac. How difficult is it to switch them out?

They are both pretty bullet-proof as I've had jeeps with both. The original hummers even use a slighty modified select-trac case.
The biggest difference is that Select-Trac has the added option of Full-Time 4WD so you can drive around on all-road surfaces in 4WD where-as the Select-Trac Part-Time 4WD and Command Trac's 4WD should only be used on slick road surfaces so you don't damage the transfer case.
I have Select-Trac on my current Jeep and it's nice to just leave it in Full-Time in the Winter when dealing with plowed roads with dry pavement and those that are partially cleared without having to constantly shift in and out of 4WD. Also nice to have to help give more control when hydro-planing without risking driveline damage from running the Part-Time 4WD.
That said there are TONS more kits available for the Command Trac NV231 than for the Select-Trac NV242 as I believe only the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee had the Select-Trac case available.
