Roof Racks on a Hard Top

Son has a 98 Wrangler with a hard top. He wants to put a set of Thule roof racks / ski racks on, by buying the Thule artificial rain gutters (looks like a 6 inch section of a cars rain gutter) that will be bolted to the hard top, then using Thule racks with the feet that clamp onto the artificial rain gutters.
Any thoughts about drilling into the hardtop and mounting the artificial rain gutters & roof racks? Any other ideas?
Thanks

I wouldn't drill into the hardtop; it will affect the integrity of the material and quite probably leak.
There are excellent aftermarket racks/ski racks available, which either mount on the spare tire, or mount above the top(and bolt to the body). I'd suggest going to Quadratec.com or JCWhitney and check out what they have there. The customer service people at both places are very knowledgeable and should be able to get your son exactly what he wants.
