niether of these are superchargers or turbocharges.
supercharges and turbochargers can be classified very easily, simply check how the device is being powerd.

hybridsol,
take it from another mechanical engineer, conical is a word, it refers to shape.
Example, an ice cream cone is conical, so in a snail shell......
No stress buddy, just letting you know:)

Is the legacy twin turbo not based on the same engine? the EJ20?

And as for Twin turbo WRX :silly2: :silly2: :silly2: :silly2: :silly2: only the STi is TT, the normal one is a single Turbo
look mate no wrx was ever released with twin turbo's not even the sti's.
the only subaru that is is the b4 legacy which has sequential turbo's.
but there is a guy here in queensland australia who does have one twin turboed it is running 2 t28 ball bearing nissan turbo's and i belive the setup cost him about $20,000 by the time he finished getting it right.
the car actualy ran a 10.070@about 132mph at willowbank raceway.
the number plate on the car is V8EATR

What about way back in 1993 when they came out with the Legacy GT and RS Sedans, the GT and GTB wagons, then the facelift in '96(ish) to the RSB sedan, GT and GTB wagons, then the RSK B4 series.

Ok folks.. I've seen a lot of terms being slung around 'bout turbos.. how's about an explaination for those not in the know? Sounds good, huh?
(all terms basic; not technicly defined)
"Turbocharger, turbo": Exhaust-driven forced induction. Generally, hot, already-burned exhaust gas builds up in a chamber, creating pressure (charge) that eventually allows for a "re-burn" of that exhaust gas in addition to the new fuel/air mixture. Power from the "back end" of the engine. More power, and when done correctly, less harmful exhaust gasses.
"Twin-turbo": 2 identical turbos. (Twins are identical, yes?) A twin turbo usually uses 1 tubo for each bank of cylinders. That VW 16 cylinder, 4 turbo? "Quad Turbo": 4 turbos, one for each bank of 4 cylinders. Exhaust from each bank of cylinders feeds a separate turbo.
"Bi-Turbo, biturbo": Usually Audi specific, but this is the little turbo/big turbo setup ("Bi" = two, for those of you who haven't surfed enough porn lately...) As others have commented, this is a setup that tries to eliminate the problems with a big turbo (lag) and a small turbo (power). Note: RX-7 Gen III's were listed as twins, I think. They are actually "Biiturbo" or at least sequential.
"Sequential Turbo" Inline turbos. 2 turbos, usually of differing sizes, arranged much like the Audi "Bi-turbo," but they are occasionally the same size. Note: generally, the correct usage of this term implies that the exhaust gasses from both sides of the engine (or all exhaust ports on a radial) combine before entrance to the chamber, as opposed to the twin setup above. This is a "larger term" than "bi-turbo;" a bi-turbo is sequential, but a sequential turbo is not always a bi-turbo.
The problem here is one of terminology. People throw around terms 'cuz they sound cool, not because they are real; and manufacturers and magazines are just as guilty as the dude two houses down who doesn't know a turbo from a water pump. (For example: yeah, I know that not all twins are identical, but the colloquial meaning describes identical objects.)
Superchargers? Damn if I know beyond the power comes from the "front end" of the engine: air is sucked into the supercharger, then blown (hence "blower") into the combustion chamber, creating more pressure and more powerful burns. Basicly the same effect as a turbo, but superchargers require a "vaccum cleaner" to suck in the air, creating parasitic drag (like your air conditioner), and the clean-air benefits are not there (beyond the basic more power/less cylinders advantage).
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong...

yeah that's true, you got me wondering why top companies have the impreza set-up with a big single turbo instead of two turbos, well maybe it's an acquired taste or something, but all those top companies, come on.

I bought a JDM (Japan Domestic Market (made in Japan)) EJ20t. On that store they also had an EJ20tt. For those of you that dont know the t and the end of the engine code stands for turbo. The tt believe it or not stands for twin turbo. I dont know if the EJ20tt came in the Impreza but I do know that the EJ20t did. I asked if there was a power difference between these two engines expecting a yes for answer but wanted to see how much. They said the EJ20tt produced 280hp. I ended up getting the single turbo due to price.
I do believe that one guy is wrong in saying that centrifugal superchargers are belt diven turbos, but I guess its a way you would see it explained in idiots giude to centrifugal superchargers.
and the other dude that said all superchargers had turbines...yeah, you're an idiot too, look at a jackson racing http://www.jacksonracing.com/pages/howorksh.html
and the the first dude thats flamming on the other dude for copy pasting, how do you like my copy paste. I rather copy paste, than talk sh@t with nothing to back it up. Besides everything you say, its either bullshit you just made up or a copy paste that you either heard or read or saw somewhere put in your own words.
I hope this helped somewhat.
