Is a stock 1987 caprice engine a small block or a big bock v8?

the 87 caprice has a V8 305 small block. I think there was a V6 as well.

I think the Caprice was only a big block in the 1960's. I think it was a 454, but it was downsized to a small block I think sometime in the 70's and has been a small block since. So, if you have a stock caprice newer than the late 70's, its a small block.

1976 was the last year a big block (454 cu in.) was available as an option. The following year, the cars were "downsized", re-designed with smaller engines available as an option. I have read where GM made this decision back in '72-'73 and the oil crisis helped to speed up the implementation of this.
