I ordered a red det valve cover that I'm gonna swap and I was wondering If when I take off the valve cover do I need to change the gasket. anybody that has done cams should know

Well it is recommended...what you can do is swap it and see if it leaks. Check it daily for a week and then monthly...If no leaks then it should be fine...Mine has been taken off and put on couple times and no leaks. The valvecover gasket is pretty thick and solid...it should be fine unless you have lots of miles which I would also recommend buying a new one.

i say you change it cause the last own probably starved the engine of oil (just assuming, since ive heard of it a lot). a lot of parts on the engine require to replace the gasket everytime you take it off.

I did. It wasn't much for a new valve cover gasket.
Also make sure that your DET valve cover has the round spark plug O rings inside the valve cover. If not just swap them out of your old valve cover.
BTW I still have my stock valve cover if anybody wants it :)
