My 97 Jetta basically won't start once the temp gets to -20C or so (-4 F). It cranks but only fires once every few seconds or so, and won't start. Last time I pushed it inside and it only took about 5 mins before it was OK. This time I don't have that option. I put gasline antifreeze in last time so I don't think its bad gas.

It sounds like the fuel pump only spits out a bit of fuel when you turn it to start, unlike other makes where the pump it running constantly when in start and crank. This is obviously a design thing, but I think I may try hard wiring it to run constantly and see if that helps.

Not sure what other suggestions there are, but if anyone else has dealt with this problem please let me know.

do you have a 50/50 coolant mix? if you slready do try a 70/30 mix. also 5W30 oil, that will make a big difference. if both of thewse dont fix your problem, you might want to get it looked at by a mechanic.
