exhaust question

Real quick and easy... Currently, I have a 2.5" collector flange at the end of my DC header with a massive 2.5" catco hi-flow catylic converter. But I have 2" pipes. I made an appointment for later at the exhaust shop to replace the cat with a 2" silencer/glasspack or maybe just a smaller 2" cat (whatever is cheaper). Do you think this will streamline my exhaust a bit better? I already get great flow and tone but I want it to be more consistent in size. I spent a lot of money for the hi-flow cat so I never removed it, but after a year or so I think I want it out...
maybe something like this... http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/uploads/165541/crxcatidea.jpg

Just looked and catalytic is rusty.... might just be the cover... oh, and it sits way off the header collector like in the middle of underneath my car.... ugh...
Doesn't redracercivic (shoe) have a long glasspack/resonator under his car?

get rid of the cat and get a glasspack

well the catylitic converter your showing isnt bad it does give alittle bit more noise. but the onyl problem is you certianly wont pass emissions. becuase the high flow cats u can basicly look through and there no honey comb type pieces insdie to turn your exhaust into nox.

what motor are u running? A header with a 2.5 inch collector on ur dseries is overkill. I'd recommend a 2.25 dc header with a 2.25 catco cat and 2.25 piping. It's pointless to mix and match the sizes of your exhaust system. it's important that the whole exhaust be the same diameter to maximize the flow.

Optical illusion... the cat is just turning color (and looked rusty)... it's easier to see things when it's on a lift I guess. My catco 2.5" is not much different than the 2.25" so I just left it. I just had a 2" silencer welded in after the cat before the bend to the axle and it sounds sweet and feels like it rides smoother. I'd say it sounds like a cat-back should now.
Oh, and I've got a moderately set up d16 with DC header already.
