Hi,
I am looking at an 88 ranger 4x4 with push button 4 wheel drive. does anybody know if there were any problems with the pushbutton system.
it has 80 K on it, and in ok shape.
thanks

Occasionally you have to disassemble and clean the motor that shifts the transfer, otherwise mine's still goin' after 2 motors and 2 transmissions and 164,000 miles...
If the front hubs go out just replace them with manual hubs, it's cheaper and less problematic.
Beware head cracking problems if it has a 2.9 V-6

It's a little round electric motor a little bigger than your fist on the back of the transfer. You have to remove it, pull the cover off, and clean it with electrical cleaner, then it will work normally without sticking.
