My car will start then kill. theft light comes on

Hello,i heard sable and taurus were pretty close cars so im also asking this question here in this thread. i tried to install an auto start in a 96 mercury sable, everything went fine but when the car would start it would run for like 2 seconds then shut off. and the theft light would be on, so i finally removed the auto start and now it still does it with the key in the ignition. it looks like the computer has shut off the fuel supply or will not allow the car to start and stay running now. anyone know how to reset the computer or fix this problem? i tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it,
and that didnt work

Your car has a key with a sensor in it (some cars it's a coil, some it's a chip or a resistance). If that key is not sensed as beeing in the ignition, the car won't start because it thinks the ignition is beeing tampered with.

I think there's a way of either hidding a spare key (usually one that hasn't been keyed yet but programed with your ignition) under the dashboard or a transmiter box to solve this. Try starting your car with the key in the ignition but in the off position. If this solves your problem, then try if it will work with your key out of the ignition but close to it. It will give you an idea of how close your key has to be for your remote to still work.

Then get a key programmed but not cut. This way your key won't turn in the ignition even if your car is broken into and they find the key.

u are going to need DEI 555f to over-ride (pats) security theft system.

Well i fixed it, i had a wiring harness connector under the dash i must of bumbed and it was not plugged in all the way. i plugged it in and the headlights worked and the car started and ran. that was after i had just removed the whole auto start system UG hehe.
i guess i will try again , so basically i had it right, but the harness wasnt plugged in all the way
