hey guys i got a b2600 4x4 we replaced the head gasket and now put everything back to together and now cranking over backfiring out from the carb im thinking its timing but not quite sure and is there an easy way to adjust the timing.

yea I would double check your timing setup, remove the valve cover and first check your chain. then if ok check your distributor. Sorry I dont know off hand what marks to set to but I rec checking the book.....a lot of dealers will sometimes let you copy some pages out of their books if you are really nice. I rec bringing in a dozen crispy creams in the morning on a slow monday to bribe them with. (if you need to look at their books that is...mechanic love donuts aw hell dosen't everyone!)

I rebuilt the top end on an '80 Honda Accord with an overhead cam a few years back and accidentally installed the head with the camshaft 180 degrees off. I had some serious backfiring through the carb! My camshaft gear had two arrows, one located 180 degrees from the other. Oh well, I'm a novice! Anyway, I reinstalled it using the other arrow and everything ran great. I would definitely check the literature on your specific setup and make sure that's what happened before adjusting your timing or cam gear position. Good luck!
