How to lift hood

My 81 year old neighbor's hood on her 92 Chevy Caprice is "stuck." The release inside the car doesn't work. We cannot find the "lever" or whatever it is, to open it without the inside latch release. She cannot find her owner's manual. Can anybody help?

Thanks!

My guess is that the release handle broke off. You should be able to open it by attaching vise grip to the shaft.

Location of the handle on a 78-90 is driver side kick panel. It's gotta be close to that on the newer one.

To keep it from giving you a problem in the future, put some light oil on the cable under the hood and some lubri-plate on the latch mechanism.

Thanks to all who replied. Another neighbor was able to open the hood for her. He had to lay on the ground (it's -12° without windchill factored in), and reach up through the bottom of the car, but he did it!

Thanks again!

At -12, it had to really suck to open that hood. When it gets warmer, I'd be fixing the cable mechanism.

I don't know about y'all, but my Caprice hated cold weather
