Ok, so im visting my uncle in NJ. He has a 2004 subaru forester XT. We are going to get something he left at his house.( This was at christmas eve I just forgot about it, We were at a family party ) So I see a redlight ahead (Im not driving) I pull into the open lane. Its a 3 lane street. I look over, siting right next to us is a mazda rx7 (newest gen). It has a body kit that is unpainted, a big dent, and a very big spoiler. And suprisingly, No fart pipe! So I tell my uncle that the car looks fast and he might want to race. So my uncle takes it up to 3500 rpm and holds it there, ready to launch. the guy driving the rx7 looks over and shakes his head (Like no not yeah) The light turns green, We dust him in first and second gear! At the launch, We were about 3 cars ahead, then second about 2 cars ahead, but we were def going to win. Then my uncle lets off the gas, it takes him about 4 seconds, but he passes us and gives us the finger! Our turn is at the next light so we go to turn, and he sitting there with the finger out the window. My uncle ignores him and and turns...It was really fun, that little sub can launch! The look on the guys face when we were dusting him was so priceless. My uncle said he would have smoked him if he contuned to race, but we were outta gas. He is very cautcious also so...I was suprised he raced! I think we would have won if we kept racing. according to car mags the xt (turbo wrx motor) gets to 60 in 5.3 seconds.

his RX-7 isn't running right. alot of them aren't so a kill is a kill, but have it been in mint condition and a good driver, it would be a close race from a stop, but on the highway you'll have to get use to seeing his taillights.

I don't know if it was a turbo or not (cause I thaught non turbos were slow?) I know I would die on the highway to one of them!

ditto.
and i can't see a factory single turbo ej20 getting a forester to 60 in 5.3, the WRX is lighter and it doesn't do it. but they do launch hard.

My bad, its a somewhat differant then the wrx motor....on the second page it shows them getting to 60 in 5.3 seconds, and the quatermile in 13.9

No such thing as an N/A FD...well unless it's got a 20b swapped.

The 2nd gen had a turbo trim.
BTW, the the motor is the forester is the same one in the STi, with a smaller turbo (among other slight differences) ; I saw an article a while back on how to do the STi conversion. Super Sleeper.

the motor on the forester is not the same as the STi. the motor on the forester is a single cam i believe. while the STi is a twin cam with variable cam timing.
edit: and no there is no such thing as a non turbo 93-96 FD3S RX-7.

Well…he DID shake his head before the race. Maybe that means he didn’t want to race. http://www.ls1.com/forums/images/smilies/dunno.gif

I think he wanted to race, his motor sounded like it was trying. And I would be a little more then 3 cars ahead at launch if he did not try. He would not have passed me going 60(The speed limit was 40 there). I am amazed the forester puts down those times aswell, Its faster then a wrx.

As far as I've been informed, the 2.5 XT has the same running gear as the STi... But I could be wrong...

quoted from the Car and Driver article:
What we have here is a custom-made 210-hp, 235-pound-feet DOHC 2.5-liter boxer four with variable intake-valve timing through 35 degrees of crankshaft rotation and its own smaller Mitsubishi Heavy Industries intercooled turbo, a unit that produces faster throttle response and spool-up than the IHI unit. Boost maxes out at 11.6 psi versus 14.5 psi for the STi engine, and that figure of 235 pound-feet at 3600 rpm is a whopping 42 percent more than the plain-vanilla engine generates.
i wonder if that motor would fit in my sisters 2.5 RS impreza.
