Reverse gear blown?

I've got an 86 Wagoneer with the 2.8V6. I was recently "almost" hit in an accident. *phew*, but they hit other people. So I turned around and parked on the side of the road to see if anybody was alright. Little did I know how deep the snow was where I parked and I sunk right in. In my first efforts to get out I put it in reverse and tried a little rocking motion, on the last motion *CLUNK!* and I no longer have reverse. Some people say it could just be a linkage that busted or something, but I have a feeling that it's more serious.

I now have two neutrals, as reverse acts just like neutral and does absolutely nothing. All the other gears work flawlessly (D)(P)(1)(2).

Anyways, any ideas?

sounds like you have a problem with the reverse band.the clunk might have been the band, anchor or servo piston breaking.it does sound serious

Well, I found a tranny at local junk yard for $150, think it would be worth it to just get the other tranny and put that in, or get a rebuild kit for the tranny? I'm not new at doing tranny swapping, etc. so the replacement shouldn't be a prob.

even if you go with the boneyard trans,i would recommend going through it.that trans is so simple, its probably more of a challenge to take it out than it is to rebuild.
