Possible Intake Gasket Failure?

Ok guys. I've got my 99 GTP (67,000 mi) to my mechanic looking at possible upper and/or lower intake gasket failure (or worse yet, the intake itself). I've been losing some coolant (and there's a strong antifreeze smell in the engine bay) and it has me a little worried. I don't see anything leaking onto the manifold and nothing in the oil so I'm hoping maybe it's just the water pump failing. They're going to run a pressue/dye test. I'll keep you posted. Keep your fingers crossed.

Intake gasket failures are pretty common on our cars.

I was experiencing the same symptoms you are and took it to the dealer. Verdict; leaking intake gasket. It's schedualed to go in next week for a new tranny and to get the leak fixed, so there ya go.

Grand Prixs have 2 yellow orings that sit inbetween the intake manifold and the supercharger. On every GP that Ive removed the blower from the gasket material around the orings where saturated w/ coolant. Its pretty easy for the coolant to leak from around that area (throttle body/supercharger) and burn up on the crossover.

Its a rather easy fix.

Well, good news (sort of). Mechanic pressure tested the system to 20 lbs and found no intake or head gasket failure. Says there is some external seepage around the o-rings but not to worry about it right yet. Found significant leak at heater hose where a flush-n-fill kit had been restored but the hose hadn't been cut properly. It was leaking right onto the exhaust manifold (that's what was causing the strong antifreeze smell.

Would you guys agree that the seepage around the o-rings is not a major concern? Any thought on how long before it becomes a bigger problem?

I would say that it you'll find that o-ring problem on almost all GTP's

Antifreeze smell just wouldn't go away so I took the car back to my mechanic. Still says it's not bad but one corner of the LIM is starting to seep pretty good. Going ahead and having the gaskets done and be I'll be finished with it.
