This weekend I had a strange problem. I couldn't get my car to shift out of park. The first thing I thought was to check to see if the brake lights were coming on when I pushed the brake. They weren't. I checked the fuse, that was fine.

After bitching up a storm at the gas station (were I was stranded) I was reading the manual and found the section on the adjustable pedals. I moved them up and down from were I had them adjusted at before and sure enough, the brakes would engage and the lights would come on. I could shift the car out of park.

Anyone know of or experiancing this problem? I can recreate the problem by adjusting the pedals to a diffrent location. Sometimes if I have them in a good spot, leave the car sit, then come back to it, i have to adjust them again.

Thanks.

Your brakelight switch is busted. There were two(2) separate(!) recalls on this for the adjustable pedals equipped Tauruses and Sables since 2000. Your brakelight switch also activates the shift interlock. Go to the dealer, it should be a free replace, even if your warranty is out of date.
