Blinker problems

I have a 98 Grand Voyager that blinkers fail to function for absolutly no reason at all. There is no series of events that create the failure. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. And of course they wouldn't work for the dealer. The only things that I have noticed is that there is a big click that seems to come from the steering wheel when they stop working and the running lights do not work when blinkers don't. no other electrical feature is effected. The headlights and tails lights all work fine otherwise.
I can never troubleshoot intermitent electrical problems so if anyone else has had this problem, please let me know how you fixed it. Thanks

It's possible your combination signal/hazard warning flasher is bad. it is plugged into the junction block at position #4. The junction block is located to the left of the steering column. (maybe that is the noise you hear) To get to the flasher you must remove the lower steering column cover and knee blocker.
The flasher also controls the 4 way hazard lights, the next time the signals fail, put the 4 ways on, if they fail to work then changing the flasher should cure your problem
good luck
