Ignition problem

I have a 97 GT that is having a reocurring ignition problem. When trying to start, all electrical power cuts out and the key can not be removed (stuck on on position) Second time this has happen. 1st time electrical power came back on when the shift relase was pressed and selector was moved to netural, it then started normally. This time nothing.

I have removed the key by pressing the release on the bottom of the steering post, but need to get it started to take to dealer for repair. Any ideas?
