OK, It is -10 outside and my 01 jetta TDI will not start. Ran/Started fine yesterday. Got in this morning and nothing happend when I turned the key. All the lights stay on, etc, but it does not even try to turn the engine over (not the battery) Similar to how the car would react if you did not push the clutch in. Is it possible for the starter to freeze up? But this does not seem right, or lights, etc would turn off when I turn the key....
Any suggestions where to start?

I have installed everything related to starting my car: battery, starter and whatever else came along.
Have you tried replacing the spark plug wires? My Jetta has difficult time after rain starting more than anything else and now starts fine because I replaced the spark plugs.

New vw starters CAN freeze up untill they are used a couple times.
TDI doesnt have spark plug wires.
Pull off the timing belt cover (requires you to remove the intake pipe) and check the timing belt. Also check to see if the engine turns by hand.

I had a similar prob with my MKIII. My lights would work, but the battery kept draining. CHECK YOUR BATTERY VOLTAGE! It wasnt the alternator, nor the battery or the starter. It was the ignition switch. So, if your battery is drained, and you tested all the other components, that could be the culprit.
