Guys, I have searched these forums over and over looking for answer and all I can find is the question being asked, but no one ever giving an answer...

Is there, a replacement Rear Shock that replaces the Air Shocks... If so what is it?

are you asking if there is a standard, non air shock, replacement for the air shock?

If so, why don't you want to use the load leveling air shocks?

Yes, I am asking if there is a standard rear shock that replaced the Rear Air....

My compressor went out and I don't feel like hasseling with the Air Shocks any more... Car has 120,000 mile on it, I don't want to put any more money into it than I have to..

don't know if these will work, but you can call and find out if the can somehow be modified for an aurora.

From looking at KYB's web site, I think the GR-2's might work. Go to their web site and give them a call.

I used to have air shocks on my ElCamino. It had a valve inside the gas cap where you set the height. Add air to go up, bleed it to go down. I used one of those little portable $10 compressors. Worked great.

You could mod the air shock lines to use a valve and still have air shocks - a lot cheaper than fixing the compressor, just no auto levelling!!! Then you know they'll fit.

I know people that have replaced them with air shocks that use a manual valve. you can mount the vavle anywhere. I used to have one in the trunk of my Monte Carlo. I think Gabriel makes a set that fits the Aurora. This way you still get the air shocks without having to pay for a new compressor.

The KYB GR-2's are front struts, not rear shocks.
No standard shock company will list an alternative
to the OEM part without enough demand. Since
there are relatively Aurora's of this range of years,
the only offering I have seen other than OEM is
the Monroe MA-822. These are also an air shock.

There is no reason no to get OEM shocks and cut
the boot off of them if you don't want to deal
with the air issue at all. The only risk in running
this type of shock without air is the rubber boot
can get bound up.

I have been working on lowering my suspension
and found that the few folks who were doing
something for this car have moved on and
are not interested in it anymore.

I have checked with Tokico, Bilstein, KYB...
and none would put themselves in a liable
situation and tell me that they have a fitment
for the rear, if it was not to OEM spec, and
they would already list that in their catalogs.

Sorry... not too much good news on that one.
You can get and ACDelco pair of rears reasonably
cheap and, like some have said, rig up the air
line somewhere so you can pump it up yourself.
The rubber boot only needs about 10psi to keep
itself from getting boung up.

dont forget, you will need a set of springs if you take off air shocks, lots of mods

I'm not sure that is true. There are a lot of
folks out driving with out any air list even working.
The spring rates for the rear are set for normal
gas shock tensioning. The Delco air shock
is just a monotube gas shock with a rubber
air bladder for a spring. It is for supplemental lift.
Normal usage would not be an issue. The only
reason the air compressor runs after starting is to
put enough air pressue into the system to keep
the air bladders from getting pinched whilst driving.
