My 99 Silverado has 132 K. paid off - runs great. I just went in to the dealer with a miss/breakup. Diagnosis said the A/c line condensation drips on the distributor cap and pits the contacts. OK it is fixed.
BUT... everytime I have taken the 4.3 l to the dealer I am told.. "There is alot of carbon buildup in the intake/throttle body and I need an induction service." The service mgr. said it is recomended every 15 K...
Anybody familiar with this alleged need for dealer induction service ---------
for 100.00????
I have no loss of power or fuel economy....
Thank's Whitetailer

I would pull the throttle body off and clean it with some carb. cleaner or throttle body cleaner. I don't know about the intake though, the carb. cleaner might damage a plastic intake.
One question, I thought a 99 silverado did not have a distributer cap? I was under the impression they went to a computer controled setup where there was a coil for each cylinder. Maybe I am wrong.

i am planning to order a FIPK and while i have the intake off i plan to clean the throttle body with some "throttle body cleaner".. One question, why does the bottle say "with truck running" spray the butterfly and open and close it by hand.... and so on. Why does the
truck need to be running? It wont hurt to have it off right? Whats the idea.. am i cleaing the butterfly itself or behind the butterfly? Ive never had my intake off so im wondering how much of a proccess this will be. ;
thanks,
jerry

with the truck running it will suck the cleaner in burn up in the piston chamber if the engine is not running and a valve is is the open position you can hydrolock the piston and damage the engine
hey it is really easy to clean just give it a try if ya have problems back off and try again
while spraying carb clean the engine will bog down so give it a chance to catch up and spray again also i tell people if you can read you can work on a car or truck the difference between a master tech and other is the speed in which he works . so give it a try!!!!!
