Hey guys i just had a race with a VOLKSWAGEN Golf GTI VR6, i was driving on the highway going like 65 so i see this black car and it was a vr6 so he gets in back of me like 2 feet of my bumper so i shift down to 4th gear and punch it and i pull hard and like around 5rpm vtec hits so IM pulling hard and start to lose him and out of no where he gets back on my bumper and cant lose him so IM still in 4th and right now IM going at 7rpm and cant lose him still so i was like IM going to red line it and then go to 5th so anyway he pass me like i was not racing and he gets like 5 cars on me and now IM like near 8rpm so i go to 5th and IM going like 120 mph and still i cant get up to him and he just kept going fast as shit so then from there I slow down and just gave up and was like OK i got my ass kick bad. but i think he had some work on the car that just pulls hard and fast ass shit and i didn't do that much work yet just got the JDM B16A Vtec with intake and exhaust on my Gs integra 2 door and both cars was 5 speed.:(

Dude!! You got rid of your b18b1?? That is a super engine....put it back in and boost it!!

You should have got a B18C1 in there instead.

don't mean to sound ignorant but why would you swap in a B16A when you had a B18B:(? For the same money you could have boosted your B18B and definately been able to take that GTI VR6. I'd swap your engines back, sell the B16A and turbo your B18B.
But hey to each his own,

I was just thinking the same thing.
A b16a on an integra, and a civic intake on top of that?
Usually, most people spend money to UPgrade their performance.
Besides, even if you kept the b18b - that vr6 would still have handed it to you - given your current mods.
Unless i'm missing something here.
What are your times looking like?

Anyone know what the specs are on the vr6?
I think you should sell the b16a and put your b18b1 back in and boost it...youll get him this way. The b18b1, I have been told, will hold 300-350 HP on stock internals...correct me if Im wrong

well hold for a second maybe. VR6 are slightly faster than GSRs. i think they do a quater in like 15sec. And yes a v6 would pull hard than a inline 4 (well some inline 4s, i personally like the ac86) especially around 100+ mph. AND what were you thinking a b16 for a b18? did you blow up your b18 or what? j/k

Specs on VR6... Depends on what year. The New VR6 is supposed to be putting down like 200hp and it should be a monster, but the previous VR6 had like 175hp. Regardless that motor has enough torque to put your balls in your throat. My friend Drew owned a 98' VR6 GTI (175 hp) one day on the way home from golfing, he got that thing bone stock going 140mph on an empty stretch of highway with two of us aboard. No kidding, I think the thing had more to give. We were still pulling when things started feeling too risky, and he slowed down. Thing felt like a rock at speed though.
I love my Teg, I think it has sensational potential to bruise a stock VR6 battle wagon, but damn... those two extra cylinders DO count for something! That GTI would pull from 60 to 100mph with such enthusiasm it was seriously hard to keep the smile from cracking my face in half.
I will probably never own one, but I do respect them.

yea but then if you wouldve boosted the B16 then you would have 264.4 WHP and you would've killed the GTI.

I just got done doing a Gsr swap into my 97 civic and I love it. With the same money you spend on the B16A you should have upgraded to a B18C1 or a B18C5 for another k or two, and you should have been able to smoke :bandit: that VR6. It's true that the new VR6 put out arownd 200 HP but the older ones put out about 175 Hp. The last article I read about the Civic SI with the B16A and the VW VR6 they had about the same times. And you also have to remember that are some hard core VW owners out there too. So who knows what kinds of mods he might have had on that thing. Good luck in the future. My opinion is that you shoud go back to the B18 series motor.....(B18b B18C...) You can sell your B18b and your B16a and get a B18C5 Type R and you will have a kick ass car then. You will be able to surprise a lot of people with the power of that motor. See ya....................... stefan525

I don't know if you guys are giving the B16 the credit it deserves.
Sure the decision to swap to a B16 instead of turboing a b18b doesn't make alot of sence to you guys, but really turboing a motor just turns out to be a major pain in the arse.
That's where the B16 comes in.. when it comes to all motor it's one of the more flexible motors in the Honda lineup. Fitted w/ CTR cams, ITR pistons and internals, you're pushing a ton of power out of that motor w/ 11.0:1 compression, 9000rpms, etc. Sure it'll get about 15mpg, but who cares. No pun, but its way more fun of an engine to drive when compared to a B18C1, personally. I'm sure you guys have a whole different perspective on it all :D
I still think you should've turbo'd that B18B :)

While I agree that the numbers you read could have been similar, the contest was completely different. The acceleration tests you posted on are based upon 0-60, and 1/4 mile times right? From a standing start? I don't know of a magazine that does 60-125 acceleration times. If so (and that is a big if, cause I don't know what you were reading, so please bear with me) then the times would be an ineffective measure for comparison. Torque is the major player when it comes to high speed. The VR6 has plenty of torque (read: 2 extra cylinders), where a B16 offers less torque than the B18. Perhaps this is why Eric26 got beat in this particular contest.
The things I like about the GTI are far outweighed by the things I dislike. My friends car for instance... Mushy shifting, bizzar rubbing sound in hard corners, strange looks (like a lowered minivan). I much prefer my Integra, but I do have to give credit where it is due, the VR6 is one hell of an engine.

the turbo causes alot of stress on the motor and wears it down faster than a car running n/a. Also, when turbo parts break, they cost some major cash to fix when compared to a $30 headgasket on an n/a car.

Man, that will teach you mess with German cars! German cars are built to be autobahn stormer! Unless your Japanese counterpart is boost or gear to go triple digit, don't bother to apply for a race!
Hey ShicivGuy, do you know what the heck are you talking about turbo? Turbo your engine does not mean you will make it go to hell earlier, unless you don't know what the heck you are doing...
Don't post shit when you know shit.

Wow, the two of you sounded pretty smart until that last exchange.
My dad can beat up both y'all daddy's. And yo mamas too.
And yes, turbos DO typically put more wear on an engine.
If you know what you're doing, it puts less wear, and if you don't then it's plenty wear. But overall, it puts more wear than not having turbo.
Duhhhhhhh!!!!

You guys need to say more than just, "turbo wears it down..." and "no it doesn't!"
On stock internals? Yeah... Say bye bye to your motor if you push a good boost and run it fast all the time.
Without an intercooler? You better have a cell phone in summer time...
If you upgrade the internals, pistons, bulletproof the engine, have a strong intercooler with a turbo timer, and set it at a proper boost... Then your engine will last a little longer... Well way longer, BUT it will still wear it down... Because it's a non aspirated motor, that now has forced induction... You think about it.
