Cleaning decals?

what do you guys use to clean off decals before applying clear coat? I was going to use wax but i figure the clear wont stick to it. Also how long after a decal (cf) is applied, can you clear it? Thanks

Wax would prevent the clear from sticking to the surface.

Wait at least a week before clearing over any sort of decals.

How do you mean clean the decals - are they dirty, or do you just mean excess glue residue? If the latter, a very gentle wash under running water does the trick.

As for how long to wait before clear coating, I guess the simple answer is until it's dry. How long that actually takes can vary, depending on a number of factors. As Ray says a week to be safe, but you could probably get away with just a couple of days if the weather is good.

it seems like there is a smudge on it, don't want to clear it before i get rid of it, or itll look ugly.

Then I would recommend as Phil mentioned, just gently clean if under running water, or even use a soft damp cloth, just be careful not to damage the decals.

In that case can you could try some polishing compound to remove it. Very gently!
