taurus stalling when cold and in gear

my 97 taurus stalls when you put in gear only when its cold . If it warms up it doesn't stall at all.It also seems to shift through the gears too fast and has lost power . It has the 3.0 and ax4n tranny.any help please.

I have a similar problem with a 2002 Taurus when the temperature
is below freezing. The Ford Dealer has worked on it twice but to
no avail. I hope someone can tell us what the problem is.
