Sony CDX-5090 won't work

Last night I just bought my Camaro and it came with the Sony CDX-5090 deck, the only problem is it also didn't come with the user manual. So when the deck is on, the dash just barley glows so you can't read anything unless you get 2-3 inches away. The deck works aside from this but I can’t find a downloadable manual for this model, or if you have suggestions to fix it please post. Thanks

sounds to me like the dimmer wire is shorting to ground somewhere. Rip the deck out, and check the orange wire. Make sure it isnt grounding out anywhere. If it is, just get some black tape and tape it up, if it looks fine, the deck may be bad. Just buy a newer one. If I remember right, the cdx-5090 is an older sony deck, correct? Just for the sake of arguement, just try unhooking the dimmer wire all together. The orange one(s). Yes, there may be more than one. Report back with your findings. Good luck

Okay I will try the dimmer wire. I am hoping I dont have to buy a new deck because now I have to pay insurance with me on the Camaro (17yr old on a 94 Camaro=$$$$$). Thanks for the reply.

No I actually bought the car. Unfortantly I dont have the parents that will give me money for whatever I want. A good portion of last years part time salary went towards the Camaro, so far it is a nice car.

Its not grounding out anywhere, I think it might be a bad deck. The CD player doesnt work either so I will get a new one in a while. Of course adjust the radio at night is still fun, not being able to see at all. :disappoin

oh, that does suck. damn, I dont know what to tell you, stear clear of those shitty ass sony decks. Get a nice pioneer p6800, or something along those lines.
