Wheel Alignment Query

Hello;
Cool site by the way!
Recently I drove my Grand Prix GT (2001) to local plaza , ran some errands and upon return found that my car was side-swiped. Both the passenger and rear-passenger doors were completely bashed-in, front right panel had dent, paint scratch's and altogether missing on side of car and right rear hub cap dented inward. After calling my local York OPP and reporting incident (by which the f----ing asshole who did this did not either wait around and/or report it) I was instructed to drive the Grand Prix to my closest Collision Reporting Centre to be examined whereby I further noticed that the wheel-alignment was affected. The car rattled/vibrated and wanted to veer (not turn gradually) to a sharp right whereby I had to wrestle the car to stay in a straight-forward position as not to go completely off the road. This has since been added to my Insurance claim.
My question is not where to get a gun license but rather have you heard of this typically happening with car(s) that have been hit with side impact-?. I called my local mechanic whereby he said he's never heard of the 'Wheel-Alignment" being affected by a side impact yet I beg to differ as naturally it was not like this prior to accident. The Grand Prix is ordinarily known for it's quiet cabin noise and easy handling.
Any input you can give me would be greatly appreciated as now I am concerned that my Insurance provider will not consider this as a covered liability.

It sounds like some suspension componets where damaged and if that where the case, it should be included in the damage to your car.
