I was waiting at a red light in the left lane with a buddy in my car. A gray Z71 pulled up next to me in the right lane a few seconds later. I didn't even pay the guy any attention, just saw the "Z71" on the side. My lane was about to end and merge into his lane not too far up ahead. Instead of leaving it in auto, I put it in first so that the car wouldn't upshift by itself - just in case he wanted to go...I took of rather slowly when I heard his engine roar and his truck fly past me. He had about a car on me before I floored it. By the time I chirped into second and got up to 55 - 60, he was about 1.5 - 2 cars behind me. Then I slowly merged into the right lane before my lane ended. After that, he just kept his distance behind me even though I was just going the speed limit. :lol2:

Just glad that it wasn't someone like slowprocess :uhoh:

I thought Z71 was a suspension upgrade. Was it a Z71 Tahoe, Silverado, etc...?

It was a newer Silverado

As you can see, I don't know shit about trucks. I thought Z71 was a Silverado model or something :screwy:

Z-71 is a suspension upgrade w/ 4 wheel drive. Most of them out there are silverados but there are some suburban z-71's too.

Nice kill on the truck, man! You must have really smoked him for him to not want any more. When my truck was stock, and I got beat by, well pretty much anybody I tried, I would always catch back up to them and try again. I just love to race!!!!!
What kinda times do you put down at the track, TypeS? I'm always on here getting as much info about all cars as I can. I like to know about everything out there on the street.
Again, sweet kill, and stop picking on trucks!!! Remember, probably 85% of them out there are stock, and would stand no chance against you, so the odds are mostly in your favor!!!!

Some of those chevy trucks have big ass engines in them though...like twice the size of my engine...so I figure it's a fair fight if I race them :D.

Z71s are not lifted in anway. Basically, the Z71 option is stiffer shocks, skid plates, and decals. Along with on/off road tires.

street racer, remember, those trucks also probably weigh twice more then your car, lol. Nice race though, because the 5.3L Vortecs do run good, for a truck.

That would be like....6000 pounds, no way lol. It just surpises me how fast some stock ass chevy trucks are....my friend used to have a 1991 shortbed with the 350 and had some flowmasters...that thing got on it pretty well.

Haha man, I didn't pick on him. He tried to blow past me so that I would have to get behind him even though I was there first. It wasn't even really a race, just a 10 - 55 mph sprint really. If I had launched like him, it would have been over sooner.

With these mods, low 14s, maybe high 13s should be possible (judging by how other people have ran with the same mods) and trap should be around 98 - 101 mph. I would need better tires though. I haven't ran at a track yet since the tracks closed by the time I put that stuff on my car.

And why should I not race trucks if they wanna play? Maybe I'll run into someone who's modded like you, that'll teach me a lesson :grinyes:

I stand corrected... They always kinda looked like they were to me... Maybe it is just because the stiffer suspension does not allow the truck to slouch down as far as a normal suspension truck of the same type...

From Chevy's website...

Z71 Features:
-Skid Plate Package
-46mm shock absorbers
-Off-road jounce bumpers and stabilizer bars
-High-capacity air cleaner
-Z71 decals
-Foglamps
-Heavy-duty locking rear differential
-Wheel flares

You got it right about if they wanna play, they have to pay! That's a nice car you have there! Can't wait to see the numbers on it!!!

Well, the newer ones weigh really close to 5000 lbs. I think the crew cab ones actually do weigh 5000 lbs (give or take a 100 pounds or so).

But anyways, they do run strong for a truck, and to me, they have always had more punch then what Ford and Dodge offers, especially Ford.

I knew they had the locking differential (RPO code G80)! I said this in another thread on the Chevy Trucks forums and had a few people say otherwise!

Most of them also have a towing package and trans cooler, but I see that is not on the base Z71s (those same people were correct about that).

It does seem that the newer Z71s set slightly higher then a standard 4WD, but alot of that may be caused by the tire size. Anymore, a regular 4WD Chevrolet will only have 245/75/16 tires, where Z71s now all have 265/70/17s or 265/75/16s (basically 31 inches tall where 245s are only 30 inches tall).
