Adding power to '84 305

I just got a Edelbrock Performer Intake and a 600cfm Edelbrock carb for my Caprice. I also just had true dual exhaust put on. I'm tryin to estimate how much of an increase these mods will give the 305? Stock is 150hp and 240lbft.

It's probably safe to say you added 25-30. If the engine is "tired", you probably brought it back to 150 it had when it was new.

Define "tired"? The engine probably is being that it has 129,000 miles on it. The car was owned by an old lady before me so it definitely wasn't abused. I've noticed a big difference though, even just after the exhaust. Set of shorty headers will be next. Those will probably give another 10-20hp right?

Tired = Low compression/high cylinder leakage

If a car has not been maintained properly or driven exceptionally hard, it gets tired sooner.

A well maintained car can go 200k (easily) and still not be "tired", but one that's abused would be lucky to see half that.

Any chance you'd get the car on a dyno? I'd love to know what it's putting out.

I've babied the car the best I can. Of course, it was my first car when I was sixteen and I'm now twenty, so I've probably been harder on the car then I think. This car will make it to 200k, I'll make sure of it.

No leaks to speak of, not a drop of oil on the garage floor. The worst problem I have had with it was when an intake gasket went.

I might be able to dyno it in a few months when I get back to school. The car club at Kettering University goes to a local dyno place and lets you dyno the car for free. My friends a member so I'll ask him.

You should have no problem getting to the 200k mile marker. The transmission needs its share of attention, and the best I got on mine was 167k before it had to be rebuilt (just plain 'ol wore out).
