New Battery Car Still Won't Start

Last night my car died. 97 Escort 2.0l 99k runs great!

So I replaced the battery which I thought needed to be replaced but the car still won't start and I'm wondering if the Solenoid is giving me a problem.

The spark plug wires were replaced about 3k ago and the plugs are fine.

I can start the car and it will turn with no problem but it just won't start.

Did the car die while you were driving or did it just fail to start? If it died while you were driving, check the timing belt to insure that it did not break. If the timing belt is ok then it is probably the fuel pump. If the starter does not turn the engine over then the starter is probably bad. If it turns over and the car does not start go the fuel pump route.

or one thing you need to check, it happened to me, went to start the car, started to crank then I heard a pop. thought it was a fuse, so I checked, they were all fine, replced battery still nothing. what it ended up being was the ground cable, where it connected to the car, was dirty and corroded, cleaned that and it started right up.

while it is cranking check to see if it is getting/giving spark then if it is check that its getting fuel.

thats a good way to see if it is getting fuel. Also if you have a volt meter you can unplug a fuel injector and see if the fuel rail is getting juice. I had my ecort cranking and not fireing at all and no fuel pulse after about 300.00 of hit or miss (most stuff the was needed at 75,000 miles of no maintaince) and 6 months at the shop they found the computer was no good.-lol

My wife needs to learn how to put gas in the car. In 5 years of marriage she's only filled the tank once.
