I raced this kid the other day and he ended up beating me off the line and winning. I figured the only way he won was off the line cause i spun tires bad he chirped and went. I was just thinking if anyone knew a good way that i could launch w/o tearing up anything major on my car, its a daily driver. When i raced that kid i tached it up to about 2 grand and dumped it and the time before that i tried 1.5 grand and that chirped and went but want to learn how to launch better. I'll be going to munsie indiana for high school nationals in june so i need to have this down by then. peace :smoker2: :smoker2: :smoker2:

Well i was reading your signature on the bottom...15.5 in a quarter mile? You shouldn't have a problem launching and beating a dx. Unless he has a swap in it?

you need to make sure youre not just mashing it and dumping the clutch. you need to work with it a while in order to figure your clutch out, how fast to release it. etc

Dumping at 2grand shouldn't've made you sit there and spin like that, unless your tires are/close to being bald.

Watch your right leg's reaction when you dump your clutch. It's a natural reaction when you lift your left leg from the clutch pedal that your right leg mashes down on the gas.

Find your car's best launch RPM (you can only do this by doing) and find out how much gas is appropriate after your clutch hooks up after you dump it. Too much and you will spin excessively, too little and you'll bog the engine. Don't forget, a little spin is not a bad thing. If you spin just right, your engine will stay at full "boil" until the next gear. If you hook up too good (there is such a thing), you can break axles (but your current engine probably won't be able to do this), or more commonly, bog the engine.

There's also the clutch slip maneuver, but it's not very good for daily-driven street-cars (not that dumping your clutch is that much better):

Bring your engine up to your desired launch RPM (it will not be the same as the clutch-drop, usually higher...again, you need to do it to find it), then SLOWLY release your clutch, letting the clutch slip in place until you're ready to dump it. Again, gas it enough just to get the right acceleration.
