Frozen Doors - Please help..

Hi, wondering if anyone has had a problem with the handles being frozen?
I live in the Chicago area and just recently bought a '01 X5. I'm really happy with everything except for the driver side door which sometimes freezes. If I force the handle open, the door won't close. So I need to pre-heat the car for a while before I use it on cold days which is pathetic.
I know the pervious owner had it in Florida. Maybe this is just the car's way of telling me it doesn't like the weather up here :)
Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi i live in the uk so we get a lot of cold weather and i was working on a x5 the other day in work with the same problem,the door handle was frozen solid.Unfortunatly there is not a lot you can do apart from spraying some de cer through the handle and be carefull because these handle break inside ir you force them. Hope this is of some help.

The problem you are having with your doors is an issue with the outside door handle carriers.The carriers are getting moisture in the cables that attach the outside hande mechanism to the door latch assembly and then they freeze and you can't pull the handle. Updated carriers are available from BMW. The replacement requires removing and installing door panel,side airbag, vapor barrier, door latch assembly,outer handle and then the carrier. On a technician scale of 1-10 you should be a 9 or better to tackle this . You can easily set airbag codes if the key is cycled while performing repair and then you will need to reset with a suitable scanner.
