Today i cleaned this 4.6 up good, used the aluminum foil method on covering components. Anyway, after she was all cleaned up, i used armor all to shine all the black plastic, and hoses.

Get the spray foam type-mist it on holding the can about 2-3 ft away, this covers a wide area, and you don't need alot either. Pretty much the amount you would use to spray one tire, is all your gonna need under the hood.

Now, apply some to a terry cloth rag, and go over every little nook and cranny, this makes everything shiney. Alot of metal and aluminum looked good after giving them some dressing, like the alternator, throttle body, etc etc.

Lol, this will probably last like a week :-( BTW, how long does a clean engine..STAY CLEAN..? I drive maybe 300-500 miles per week..

Hours to Months depends on what your driving on every day. It will be alot easier for it to get dirty again since its got dressing on it dust likes to stick to dressing like a magnet. I love dressing engines too and the 4.6's dont seem to mind getting wet at all.http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/116855engine_degreasing_and_reconditioning-med.jpg
Heres with the dressing applied like you explained.

Heres a close up of after it dries.

The vinyl dressing can be applied to the painted surfaces and metal surfaces as well it shines them up too.

Hey...thanks for showing those pics :-) I posted awhile back "how to clean an engine etc" and i used many of the people replies to aid me.

It's so refreshing to pop the hood, and have a clean engine-along with wires, hoses, clips, this that etc. I tell you, for uder $25 bucks (hose/gun nozzle/degreaser/armor all) this is the best thing you can do. Just a couple days ago i found out my apt complex has a boiler room in which there are hot and cold hose outlets-that made me wanna clean my engine even more.

PS, i love how everyone was looking at me like "WTF..he's ruining his engine by spraying it..".. Apt's...busy bodies..etc :-)

No problem. I havent been cleaning many engines lately the temperature has been dwindeling -30's to -40's here but tomorrow It should be around -1. So I can get caught up lol. It only cost me about 3 dollars in chemicals and dressing to dress that engine up. Oven cleaners work on metals and cost less than engine shampoo's and degreasers that you can buy can also reduce the costs and still make it as nice as if you used engine shampoo and expensive name brand products. Just make sure the dressings are water based not silicone based products.

You use aluminum foil to cover the electronic boxes/alternator/maf sensor/distributer etc. It forms right over it-easier then a bag, and it works good.
