I just bought a 2000 gt in 12/01/04. It came with a 7 month 7500mi very limited/usless warranty. One week after buying I had to pay $400 deductible to put in a new transmission. I could have paid $100 but would have been used.
I picked up the car from the tran. shop and drove a few miles and it started cutting off at stop lights, still vibrating going around turns to the right and SES codes all over the place. Returned to the shop and they put in a front left axcel and the vibration went away.
Took the car to the local Pontiac dealership about the codes (huge mistake). Codes are P0449, 1361, 1362. They wanted to replace everything!!!! $2300 worth of crap not covered under warranty...fuel pump, fuel filter, o2 sensor, plugs and wires, ignition module, i cant remember the rest.
I replaced the plugs and wires with ac delco...$105. codes 1361 and 1362 codes are gone.
get in the car to test drive after the two codes were gone and i couldnt get the car into D!!!! steering wheel wouldnt lock and wouldnt shift. I had to turn the key all the way forwards and then back a few notches, then it would go into N and then start it!!! Any ideas???
I dont know what to do about the stuck in park problem or the code P0449.
Im begining to wonder about Pontiac!!!

update: I still dont know what is wrong with with my car not being able to shift from park. I have just been pushing the shift release. no big deal...I can live with it.
Now...after it warms up the rpm's will go crazy and cut off, usually at a stop light. I still have the P-0449 code. I replaced the EVAP purge solenoid and the code came back up so I returned it. Any suggestions?
I see a lot of seemingly more complicated problems getting solved here. Hope I can benefit too.
Oh yeah...I dont know if this has anything to do with my problems but ill mention it....I have an XM radio plugged into the cig-lighter and every 25 minutes or so it will cut off. Before I installed the XM the radio would do the same. Also the light designating what gear you are in will flash on, flicker, cut off at random times. When the light is on I dont have any problems shifting into gear from park.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder if the shop messed up the wiring that runs in the steering column. If you drop or raise the motor/trans you have to undo the steering colum and if the steering wheel gets turned a complete rotation it will cut/damage those wires. Just a suggestion, as alot of your problems seem to be ingnition switch related. The shift from park is a common problem that you should be able to find more info about over at www.clubgp.com. I think that there is a seloniod (sp) in the column that needs to be replaced.

Thanks.
The tran. shop that "fixed" my transmission probably is at fault. They sucked!! May as well have taken it to the Stealership.
They also had my car for 8 DAYS!!!! to put in the front axel. And it wasnt because they were busy...
I will call them and see what they will do.
Any clue about the P-0449 evap vent/valve solenoid code/problem?
