changing trans fluid, how much do i use?

Im going to be changing the transmission fluid and filter on a 1995 oldsmobile Silhouette 3.8L 4-speed auto (4t60) and im going to drop the pan to change fluid. my question is after i drop the pan, drain fluid, intsall new filter and put pan/gasket back togethor. How many quarts of tranny fluid do i put in the tranny? (not drain torque converter, just droppin pan)

they can usually tell you at the auto parts store. For some reason, I seem to remember buying 6 qts

When I change mine I start with 3 quarts. Then start the motor and continue to add. Usually I think I add about 9 quarts. But I measure frequently simply because you never get it all out and you will not know how much you do get out. So buy plenty and use the dip stick.
