General question/poll of pontiac owners

At the current time I have a 1993 pontiac grande am SE. I have had it for about 6 months, and could list about a page (minimum) of the problems I currently have, or have had. Now granted I bought it used (oh the fun) and its a 12 year old car, so problems are expected. In reading these boards I am seeing long lists of problems from even newer models. I am looking to buy a new car(02 model or up) in the next 6 months, and was considering staying with pontiac. This is where my question lies. Other pontiac owners, what is your general satisfaction with your car? Have you had a lot of trouble with your pontiac? Would you purchase another pontiac? And for the people who know a good bit about cars, would you recommend the purchase of another pontiac, or is it just asking for problems, extra money spent, and headaches? If this is the case, what other makes and or models of vehicles would you recommend? Thanks so much in advance for your help!!!

I have a 2001 Grand Am SE. I bought it used with 15,000 miles.I have experienced a few minor problems such as the trunk leaking when it rains and steering troubles. Despite those problems i am happy with the way my car runs, and I would probly buy another if i had the money.

I just bought an 18 yr old used grand am (86) and I only have heat problems, and maybe a tad of electric, even though I bought it from neglecting owners. (Sounds like I adopted a dog or something). But it still drove for the 45 minutes to get it from there to my house so I think it'll be good enough. If I buy a newer one, I'm not sure. Buuut hey. If this one lasts with just a few problems I might if GrandAms are lucky enough.

I have '01 GA SE sedan with the Quad4 and automatic tranny (my wife can't drive a stick), I must say I really like it. I have never owned a vehicle this finniky mind you. It has little issues like a faulty wheel speed sensor, and for a while it had a bad idling problem which was due to a failed vacuum hose. Other than that it's a pretty decent car. I paid CDN10,995 for it used which is a pretty good deal. From experience I like it better than the Honda Accord. The engine is pretty good, and if you want to tune it, you can get it up toaround 250HP reliably. And insurance is pretty good on it.

I just sold my 2003 Grand am GT1 sc/t that I purchased new. It had 31k miles on it and the only problems I had was that the window regulators broke on both doors continuosly. other than that It was flawless.

Too bad they will be only making them for fleet companies soon. But they will still be for sale after there lease terms so newer but not brand new Grand Ams will still be kicking around the market. I purchased my 2000 grand am se 3 years ago used from one of those rental car companies 20,000 miles for 12,000 and it got me out of a lease on another car and into a purchase.
During the purchase I got extended warranty and milked it for newer parts during those years. Now I have a fairly new car and its pretty hassle free infact I havent plugged it in all winter and the other day I started it with no hesitation. It was - 36 celsius and the car sat dormant for days. Reliable , comfortable and almost anyone could drive it safely. Id buy another one. 2000 GA SE v6 162,000 miles and runs better than ever.

I just bought my GA SE with a 2.3L quad SOHC for CAD$500 last year. So far I've put about 85,000KM within a year. I've drove this thing all the way to Chicago and also drove this car to Calgary without any problems. Just replaced minor stuff. So far I've spent about $400 in this car. Still going strong. So what can I say I guess I got lucky with this car and still lucky having it. No problem starting it when its like -40 celcius outside, that is whitout plugging the car in. WOOO HOOO.. Went through deep snow during blizzard too. SO I am happy and lucy to have this car. **knock on wood** I would and i am looking to buy another GA or other Pontiac vehicle. Good Luck.

Well I would definetly buy another Pontiac and even a used grand am. I tend to lean towards the Older Grand am and feel they are a little more reliable... but i can't say anything bad about my 02 GT, I've had no problems with my car. there are days i love my car and days i hate it, but thats what happens when all your money goes towards a car....

The only money I spent on my Grand am is Tires and modifications the rest was covered by warranty which was up 6 months ago. I put on a few more miles since then "Hard Miles" and all I get from it is fun but I do expect something to break or screw up eventually cross my fingers its not the tranny . :grinyes:

I had owned a 1989 Pontiac Grand Am SE, ran it to 199,998 miles before it needed some engine work. The only problem I ever had with it was heating in the colder months. The passenger side foot area was always colder then the rest of the car, even with the heat cranked and high as it could go.

I now have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am and it's the same way. No other problems on the new vehicle.

I noticed that Consumer Digest and those type of mags. have always noted the heating issue as a problem/complaint on old and newer vehicles.

I have owned a number of Pontiacs and have always had good luck with them. I have had a 94 Sunbird, 95 Grand AM, 97 Grand Prix GTP, 99 Grand Am and an 05 Vibe. I have had good luck with all of them. Yes they have cost some money from time to time but the worst problem I had was to replace the transmission in the GTP due to some major hot rodding. I just bought the Vibe and would buy another Pontic tomorrow.

I have a 1999 Trans Am and a 2001 Grand Am GT.

I have owned a 1987 Grand Am as well as a 1995 Grand Am. The 1995 was FULL of problems. Not minor ones either.

Trying to sell the 2001 Grand Am, kinda. No big deal if I don't. Car is great, just don't need it. I have a different car that needs mod money.
The 2001 has NO rattles, runs great. Tranny sucks, but that is ALL the the GT's. Just keep the fluid changed regularly and you will be fine. Front brake rotors are a little thin from the factory, and therefore warp easily. Not an expensive fix.

I would buy another Pontiac. Grand Am, G6, Grand Prix, or GTO.

Thanks everyone for all of your replies. I ended up being a traitor  I just traded my GA in on saturday on an 04 Dodge Neon. Hopefully i will have many years of enjoyment out of this one. It was sad to drive away from the dealer, leaving my GA parked there, but im sure I will become attatched to this car soon. Well, I was attatched to it before I even started signing the paper work! It's a truly beautiful car. Once again thanks to all!

My first car was a 90 Grand Am 2.5 and I loved it and only problem had in 2 years of owning it was a alternator replacement. Now I got a 94 Formula and it runs great. had a few problems with it but it so much fun to drive its worth the problem and I would buy another Pontiac for sure, not even a question in my mind.
