It all started going down the highway, truck dies. Turn ignition on hear fuel pump prime but notice it wavering in its whine. Start truck runs a few seconds the the fuel pump stops whining, truck dies. Limp home 20 miles away.
Order fuel pump from Summit and recieve a venom fuel pump. Remove bed by sliding it rearward (full tank) pull old pump assembly out not right pump. Summit says it is, call Venom to see if it will work. Screw it, I'm sending it back.
Get pump assembly from Twilight Zone for $300. Put it in tank and hook up all connections and replace battery.
Try to start and it just cranks over and over not even firing once. Got spark, furl filter is only 2 months old. Took the cap off the schrader valve and pushed the pin in while a friend tuned the key on to prime the pump but nothing no fuel no air nothing. What Now? Is the pump bad? I hear it whine when turned on.
Any suggestions would be great, nearest shop is 20 miles away.

if you have no fuel at the schrader your pump is not working. You say you hear the pump running. Were the plugs on the new pump the same as the oem. if the power and groung are reversed it will not pressurized but will turn. Do u still have the bed off?

I feel your pain (sort of). Just did my fuel pump on my '98 and have to say taking the bed off is for sure the easiest way to do this. Hell, it took me longer to decide which pump I was gonna buy from "Twilight Zone" (thats funny- I hate 'em w/ a passion) than it did to remove bed, and change out pumps. I didn't run into any problems though and sorry to hear you are.
First of all, I remember looking at my Chiltons manual (after I had finished) and seeing how it said to test the relays before replacing pump (oops). Considering how you said you were able to start your truck back up the first time you died on the road, and how you mentioned "limping" back home (not sure what you meant be this 'cause if your pump is out, it's completely out) I'd say checking your relays would be a good idea.
Also, I have a '98 as well and have the part #'s written down (somewhere) so if you mention the # you got, I'll see if it matches. Regardless of the motor size, believe it or not, all '98's use the same exact pump. On the '97's they are different; but all '98's have same pump regardless of which motor.
I imagine the pump is ok since you can hear it kick on so start with this first. I'll dig up my notes from 4 days ago to compare part #'s if you'd like.

well new pump and filter, no fuel pressure. Disconnected fuel line on tank side of filter to see how much fuel it pushed out when key is turned to on position. Well about 2 oz of gas came out in drops after the pump quit whining. I have taken it back and exchanged for another from "twilight zone" will try it out again in a few days.

Take it you bought the aftermarket "lifetime warranty" one huh? Me too unfortunantley. Although mine still works, takes a lot longer to crank over. Afraid of burning up my ignition over time. Used to bump the key and it'd fire right up. Plan on yankin it out this weakend, return it sayong its bad but try paying the $30 more for the AC Delco "one year warranty so my truck will drive right again. Also, even though "Twilight Zone's" is a "lifetime warranty," I don't wanna be spending too much of my "lifetime" replacing the damn thing everytime it goes out. Don't matter who makes it, where it comes from, they will go out again. Atleast OEM is what was originally engineered to work properly.
