Temp Sensor location

Check engine light[2000 zx2] was diagnosed as a bad temp sensor at autozone, so i picked up one up. I assumed sensor was atop the thermostat housing, so i removed it and noticed it was different from the replacement [3/8 thread instead of 5/8"]. Then i noticed beneath the housing what i thought was the right sensor--it to was 3/8 also. Now i'm thinking these are coolant level sensors.....Anyway, where's the temp sensor located?
thanks

yes, that's what my problem is. Napa, autozone, advanced auto parts- all have the the temp sensor with 5/8 thread. But, the sensor i removed has 3/8 thread.

they simply gave you the wrong part then. go back and if they can't find the right one go somewhere else. Ford could find the right one.
more than likely they gave you the focus one or some bs like that. it happens pretty often.

Went to Ford [they had to order it], anyway we'll see what they come up with.
Thanks

Dont want to break any bad news to you, but your concern is more than likely not dealing with temp. sensor, probably needs thermostat, especially if your temp. gauge hasnt been registering normal. There is probably a reason ford didnt stock that temp. sensor, they only stock what they put on, something tells me theyll have a thermostat in stock
Thanks
