How much of a noticeable difference is there between installing a cold air intake, like a k&n FIPK kit, and a regular k&n airbox filter?

A lot. The airbox filter does flow better than a regular airbox filter, but you still have the airbox all around it, and it doesnt get as much air as the cone filters that the FIPK kit comes with. I got a cold air intake from E-Bay for 20$, and it works just as good, the increase in power is very noticeable

i have had both on my 1995 and the FIPK kit is SO much better.

Throttle is snappy! And the sucking noise it makes is impressive.

Is it worth paying the premium for a K&N or is something off ebay just as good and reliable?

Well, I know how to do searches on ebay :-P

I was asking whether it's worth spending the extra money for a brand name one like K&N or whether the $40 ones from ebay are just as good and reliable.

For you engine, the ebay ones are the better option.

This one is the best on ebay:

Why is it that the ebay ones are better? I'm not disputing your claim, I'm just curious what makes them better. I know very little about these things. Also, should I be worried about the sensors and whatnot that are on my stock airbox? Do these systems on ebay take care of such issues well?

Not better, cheaper.

You will not see any difference between the ebay one I recommended and the K&N.

Hell , you could buy 6 intakes for the price of the K&N.
