Boot / Trunk won't shut

Hi,

The boot on my 2002 Passat saloon will not lock shut. The rubber switch that is used to open the boot does not function any more. This means that the boot won't stay shut when it is closed. All the other lights and switches in the actual boot lid seem to work ok. The rubber switch is just beside the small lights that illuminate the license plate.

Does anyone know what's going on or how to fix it? Could this be a lose wire inside the boot - I've checked and can't find anything obviously wrong.

A side effect is that the luggage compartment warning light is now on all the time, and the alarm won't set properly with the usual double-flash of the hazard lights. The boot won't open from the sitch in the driver's door either.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

You problably need a new door latch. They are very easy to install and take about 30min. (philips screwdriver and correct torx socket)
The latches normally go bad on passats for some reason... jettas/golfs/beetles dont really ever go bad... i dont know why!
