Your models are sooooo nice! The undercarrage is nicely detailed and the exterior is just perfect! Paint matches nicely with the body styling! I love the flat black on the hood and the engine detail is superb! Great model!

Sweet! Your detail work is second 2 none. It kinda reminds me of this 1:1 red Lightning Roadster.

Don't like the stubby windshield, but everything else is mind blowing ecspecially the engine and the chasis!

Hemi? you sure about that? To me it looks like the motor that comes in the lightning kit, though I could be wrong.

anyways thats the best looking lightning I have ever seen, the color goes so well with the body work and those wheels look badass.

Very unique! Although I think the wheels look a tad too small on it. And I would have liked it better if that thing that sits on the bed would cover the whole bed.

Thanks all. This was just something to have fun with for me and to have an entry in the future common kit contest later this year. It was meant to be different...

Yeah, that thing has a Hemi... (To paraphrase a commercial.) It's not real, but it is a DOHC Hemi now, remember it's a custom. 5.48 liters is 329 cubic inches, the truck comes with a 5.4 liter engine stock. The Lightning bottom end and intake were used from the kit, I modified the heads to accept the Ferrari cam covers, compare my engine to the stock kit and you'll see a significant difference.

The stubby windshield is part of what makes it a Speedster, Lightning + Speedster = LightSpeed, get it?

The wheels do look small, but they measure out large enough, bigger than what came off it stock, the wheel wells on the truck are just large and lowering it emphasizes the discrepancy in size. Could have used bigger tires for the look, but these are as big as the frame allows in the rear and I didn't want to narrow it.

With the bed fully covered it was to monochromatic for me and the 360's fairings got lost, originally the hood was all blue but even that was too much, so I added the black at the last minute. Besides, it is still a truck and trucks are to haul things... gives it easy access. I've been tinkering with a net for the open portion, but I'm not sure yet, it takes away from the cleanliness of it...

BTW, there is no putty used on this model, all the body filling, and there is quite a bit, was done with superglue... The paint is Tamiya Brilliant Blue (TS-44) over gray primer. Thanks again... - Mark

How is it that you use Superglue for filling??? I have been wondering since I have seen several examples of models built with bodywork done using this method.

Im not sure where I stand on this one. It's different yes, and it looks like you put a LOT of work into, so I give you credit. I just don't think it fits my taste.

Thanks, remember, it's a custom, doesn't have to fit anyone's taste, frankly it's not really my "normal" thing either, but it's nice to build beyond your boundaries sometimes too. I had to do something using that kit and I wasn't in the mood for a stock build, it's also not a great kit either when it comes to fit, and I was a bit surprised about that too.
I had fun and tried to build it well, for me that's what counts.

As for the superglue as filler, just build it up in small layers and sand it out like regular putty. I prefer wet sanding all the way throgh the process.
You can use accelerator, but I'd recommend using it sparingly, and for the top and finish layers not at all, let it dry on it's own to lessen the chance of shrinkage.
Remember it is harder than the plastic so extra care must be exercised not to over sand the plastic next to the super glue.
The main reason I used it on this project is I was in a hurry to get the bodywork done and didn't feel like waiting for the polyester filler I usually use to kick off and I was able to assemble and fill at the same time.
This was somewhat of a quickie build for me... - Mark

Yepp i like it. I definetly like models that are bashed; motor from one kit, interior from another e.t.c. But i must say ( critisism) that the wheelarches need bigger tenants :)

Scale-Master,
Great concept...and again your detailing on the engine and chassis is second to none!
Are those retaining clips on the windscreen?
Looks like you even wired the fuel injectors!
Great weathering on the fuel tank.
I'm a big fan!

What did you use to make the hood?

I cut the center of the Super Stallion Mustang hood out and spliced it into the F150 hood, with superglue... - Mark

I'm amazed that you used supaglue to do the bodywork! I hate the stuff, it's so much harder than plastic! It's a real credit to your skills!!

Interesting subject Mark...Wasn't expecting that. Of course your execution of any subject is impecible. I guess this project has slowed down the pace on Blue Seven eh?

Take care.

Not really, between "real work" and the Blue Seven I still will find time to make other personal models. While most of my modelling time is directed to the Seven, is not like I'm cheating on it to build other things that interest me. For example, stay tuned for another motorcycle model I started last weekend... I hope to have it on display at the next TamiyaCon...
