Ok, KA-Ts kick ass, but it's lame that you can never floor it without laying down rubber, I mean, what If you're merging on the highway and wanna floor it? You can't...kinda sucks.

Most of the time, you don't need to. If you have the turbo set to produce 25psi, you can make anywhere from 20 in HG to 25psi of boost. I'm pretty sure that high powered SRs are the exact same way. I'm interested in seeing someone rig up a traction control system on a 240.

Traction control si for wimps, I know that goes against what I said in my last post, but it's true. lol
Also, I was looking at boostdesigns.com and found some things that will let the KA rev to 8000RPM which I think changed my mind about going SR since high revving was the reason I went against the KA...but these new twists have made me change my mind....

i dunno man even with valve springs and retainers i wouldnt rev the KA to 8... just doesnt seem like the kind of engine to go to 8. i would try to stay under 7500. unless you plan on rebuilding within 6 months-1 year. and yeah im basically just bullshitting no technical knowledge is being applied here im just saying this based on how it feels to drive it. but if you <3 rev's id say go with the SR.

oh i forgot, that video is SICK!

01-15-2005, 11:18 PM
Actually, I was thinking of going CA also since I don't really want a huge amount oh power, I just want like 250whp and a really high redline.
orestes
01-15-2005, 11:26 PM
yeah i was thinking CA also... i saw the long block somewhere for like 1200...its only like 178 hp or something on stock boost but still i think its a capable engine. and if you could save some money and still get the performance of a turbo and rev happiness why not? only thing is i doubt they have as much support in terms of parts. but its still in my top 3 options for a new engine.. lol the other 2 are the SR and KA. anybody know of some good websites with lots of CA parts? i have found only very limited selection.
x~Underoath~x
01-15-2005, 11:41 PM
Yeah...CAs are hard to find parts for here in the states. Or so ive found...thats why I didnt get one.
And lets try to stay on subject. ;-) Thanks...

I watch that every morning when i get up and a couple times during the day...I converted a friend from muscle cars to liking Imports he now wants a 300ZX or 240SX...10.83? I think that white 240SX that does that rediculous burnout runs like 9's on 30+ PSI...

alright guys ill let you guys know who the guys in the videos are, and what kind of time and power they are putting, as they are the guru's of the KA-T community.
1) the first purple S14 that fish tails just going straight belong to Jay. his car makes 420whp and he ran a 11.9
2) the white car you guys saw that ran a 10.8 belongs to Duy. he was the king of KA-T hp at making 531whp without using the 75 shot of nitrous he has rigged up. later in that video you see a white S14 with a S15 head light conversion with the ghetto looking rear fender flares is also his car.
3) there are 2 gold S14's in there, the first one with the black rims belong to Ryan. he makes 409 whp
the second one belongs to Rick he is the new king of the KA-T hp, he makes 533whp with a slipping clutch.
4) the dark grey hatchback that was on the dyno belong to ivan at Sound performance or www.phat-kat.com, that S13 made 390whp on a completely stock internals, however he was running a hacked AEM stand alone that was original designed for hondas. he is the new king of KA-T guru's
5) the red S14 with the bomex body kit belongs to anthony. his KA-T just recently made 360whp with still 2K of revs left on the dyno. he did this all on a bone stock ECU and a SAFC and Z32 MAF and i forgot what injectors is he running now. but when he was still only running 13 psi on the 480cc's he ran a 12.4 @108mph. now with around 100 more whp he should be in the 11's as well.
this is all the people i can think of, off hte top of my head. enjoy, now you can look them up on the web and find out more about them :smokin:
i am working to be in that organization, but i feel that i am falling furhter and further behind.

STFU PUNK
besides no matter that you do to the cams/intake manifold/head/valvesprings/retainers on the KA the SR will always rev better due to its lower stroke. To me there is no difference in having a redline at 6grand or 7 grand its all pretty much the same when your hauling ass

not necessarily on the KA. You can just upgrade the top end if you want to rev higher. Aftermarket valves, springs, retainers. Then all you need is to be sure that the bottom end can keep up and hold together. Im sure a modified KA can rev just as high as an stock SR20.
TatII
01-17-2005, 11:50 AM
of course, they almost already do. a stock SR redline is 7500, a S13 KA can rev to 7000.
i was talkin to ivan from sound performance about the rod ratio being similar from a honda to the KA. he said its true, but there is alot more factors determining how high a engine can rev. first of all, the KA's rod is over 6 inches long. that is a long ass connecting rod. so that along will prevent from reving sky high, also the KA's crank only has 4 counter weights, this doesn't assist in the throwing, and balancing the crank as well as the SR's 8 counter weight crank.

why u want to rev high? u better have a Z32 MAF and wide band O2 pluse tuned ECU so u don't blow it.... i don't get the high reve ting, i want my motor to reve QUICK not reve high....
uhhh no like 4000 only lol, 6500 is enough for me, unless i have a N/A motor honda motor 9000 PRM! lol

how come you give me shit cause I have SR in my name and Like KA-T's for a LONG ASS time, you say im a bandwagoner and such but I liked the KA-T before all this popularity came to it, truth be told one of the intial reasons I liked the KA-T setup is it can be done very cheap.
But now you see a video and don't want a Sr anymore you want the KA-T.........AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

sr, you have to admit though, that watching a video like that when you don't even have a car can be quite inspiring.. then again if it had been an rb20det video then a lot of people would have started to like them.. either way, it was a ka-t video and a good one at that... just makes me want to work that much harder to get to 5psi..
logik23
01-18-2005, 03:04 PM
Actually, even though the video kicks ass, it's not what made me change my mind, I changed my mind when I saw there was a kit that let the KA rev to 8000RPM, which as I stated is what I like in an engine, high revs. I always liked the KA, but never took into consideration since it had a relativaly low redline, unlike the SR, or the CA, which I also considered.
nissanfanatic
01-19-2005, 05:31 PM
I say the plus side to having a higher useable redline is the lengthened time between shifts. It allows each gear to wind out further. And unless anyone hasn't noticed, the KA tranny has pretty short gears. I am going to start doing second gear launches just because first gear will redline like nothing.
And Tat, if you are falling behind, then I am already roadkill.hahahhahaha. Nah, I'm just building my car because I love to haul ass. Good luck getting in there man. I'll probably dump some money into my car after I get back from the Navy.
Is Duys MKIV in there? That is one bad BIIIAAAATCH.
