transmission problem

1990 Oldsmobile Regency
The transmission slips(stays on "D" but goes into "N" I have to change it to another gear then back to drive, sometimes more then once to get it back into drive) out of gear. I was told it was a belt but I don't believe this, it's not. I don't know that much about cars but I know this.
It only happens when my car has sat all night or hasn't been driven in about 8+ hours. Only happens within a quarter mile of my house. And only happens when I first hit 25-30MPH that day (gear shifting I'm sure, Going from 1st to second). The transmission seems to leak or something it's almost always low after a week, but this even happens when it's full.
Something that might or might not have anything to do with the transmission, but I believe it some how does. About a month ago it was in the 30s and when I hit that 25-30MPH it sliped out of gear and died on me. Wouldn't start at all, $350 later it starts but still slips. I believe these two problems tie into each other. Even if the guy that charged me that says it doesn't.
Well, there it is. I could be wrong but I believe anyone that has been working on cars for years could pin point this problem with the info given. If anyone has had this problem or knows what's wrong, or knows if those two problems are caused by one another please let me know. Thx

the transmission fuel hasn't been low in sometime so I guess that it's not leaking, had the filter changed on it. So I guess that fix that part, but it's still slips, any ideas?

When the filter was changed did you cut it open and check for debri?and if it was a transmission repair facility did they recommend service?

They changed the filter for me and they didn't say if there was anything in it, so I don't know about that, I can ask.
As for the belt(that was replaced) it turns out that was bs, they replaced something else. I wasn't the one that paid for the repairs being I was out of town at the time. When I called and talked to them they replaced some starter box or something.
I don't think I'm going to screw with fixing it, just drive it tell it's junk it's not worth repairing, inless it turns to be something cheep to fix.
