it's about time my frankencar needs to be tuned up...

question though, first time tuneup on an import car (used to domestics)

how do you get to the spark plugs on the engine? it looks strange compared to the ford's i was used to.

that

and

what spark plugs are recommended? i want some good ones, like the ones that can produce better performance...

also, any tips on anyone who has done this before? anything will help a bunch.

I bet u have individual coils for each plug, compared to coil+distributor. Pull them off, plugs are as used to: use never bosch...

1.change plugs ngk pfr5g-11 works best
2.renew fuel filter
3.renew air filter
4.remove snorkels from throttle body and clean backside of throttle plates. These throttle plates after time collect deposits on the backside. These deposits eventually prevent the throttle plates from completely closing thus affecting tps signal return and closed throttle switch monitoring.
4.do not attempt timing adjustment.
Every two years you must have a fuel system cleaning{proper}done.Making sure the air plenum is cleaned as well. This ensures the valves don't become too coked{carboned}.

- PCV. Have problems? If you have a rubber tube from it, pinch it closed for test purposes. First loosen rubberhose from valve cover.

- TPS is a potentiometer that wears out, at Throttle Body axle. Tst and/or replace. One may also drill a hole on the TPS box and soak/clean the worn resistor with electronics cleaner. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/748507/6

- KS= knock sensor? ...most probably bad already. ECU retards ignition if KS is bad, power loss, fuel consumption goes up 15%. When high octane gas tank full, install a susbstitute resistor on its connector: http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/748507/9
...or just replace KS.

- Plugs: I bough the extra expensive platinum plugs cause their lifetime promise is 6x std. Actually comes cheaper, and no replacement works.
